Not in the same league I'm afraid. It's like comparing Wii and PS3. Never have two products so similar being so different.

_QQ_3893d ago

if you have the option to pick up Watchdogs on PC/ps4/ps3/wiiu/xbox360 and xboxone that means those products are competing, regardless of how much better PC is vs PS4/xboxone, regardless of the power diff between Wiiu and other consoles.

BattleTorn3893d ago

It's like comparing Pixar movies to blockbuster action flicks.

One could argue Pixar makes the best movies, one could say they like them the most, and practically everyone enjoys Pixar movies.

But Pixar is not reflective of what sells in the movie industry

PopRocks3593893d ago

"But Pixar is not reflective of what sells in the movie industry"

Pixar films are almost universally successful, critically, financially and with general audiences. How is that not reflective of what sells in the movie industry?

SegaSaturn6693893d ago

That's a bad example. I hate pixar movies myself, but they're extremely successful.

BattleTorn3893d ago

@Sega

That's the point I was trying to make, but with Nintendo

Harkins17213893d ago

Next time Nintendo needs to make a next gen system. Not a little better then the Ps3.

stuna13893d ago

Agree completely! This isn't the WII against the PS3/Xbox 360 anymore! New generation, different set of rules. On just marketing basis, the WII U has had next to none, why? Because Nintendo was almost certain that the hype of this gen was going to carry over into next gen, which is pretty obvious if you take into context the name WII U! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it, it's just that they never expected the original WII to take the nose-dive it has.

And for those about to say that's what the Nintendo Direct streams are for, outside of those who already own a WII U, how is the advertisements suppose to reach mass market penetration!? Of course some would say the original WII, but truth be told not many original owners still use their WII's.

Nintendo was paying closer attention to their fanbase, than many would like to believe! But for all the wrong reasons. I remember well, just before the release of the WII U, how supporters of Nintendo! One of my favorites "PuddleJumper68", basically tried to intimidate me, because he was so confident that the WII U was not only decimate the competition of this gen, but was going to totally oblitorate next gen competition! If he were here I would ask him the question, how's that going for him?

Whether people want to acknowledge it or not, Nintendo is in a bad place with the WII U, maybe not financially, but the choices their making are not instilling a lot of confidence on their part, which adds credence as to why they're making the statements they are, too stay relevant in a race they've already fallen far behind in.

LOL_WUT3893d ago

Agreed either go all the way or not at all. ;)

Harkins17213893d ago

So I take the disagrees with me are all for Nintendo making a weak next gen system? Stupid people at its finest.... I still plan to buy a WiiU sometime in the future. But Ps4 for now baby!

3-4-53893d ago (Edited 3893d ago )

* You can't play Any Mario game, or Zelda, or other random solid games like SSB and such on PS4.

* You won't get that same Battlefield 4 & Killzone experience on Wii U, like you will with PS4.

*Titanfall,Forza,Halo - only on XB1 - for now

* You can't get the Total War: Rome 2 experience anywhere else other than PC

* 3DS & Vita give their own experiences as well.

There is no better or worse, only different.

Some of these differences will appeal to you and some will not.

That applies to every gamer.

falcon973893d ago (Edited 3893d ago )

Your dreaming last time i looked edram makes resolution and frame rates easy to achieve,16mb of edram nets you 1080p native on any game out there look it up,64mb of sram to achieve the same ??? ...yeah ps4 is in another league ??

Kalebninja3893d ago

i swear if nintendo's next system isnt on par with sony's and microsoft's imma flip why cant they just go back to an awesome controller like the gamecube days

snitch_puck3893d ago

Ever since, even if they deny it, they've always wanted to be always unique by removing themselves out of the leagues of M$ and Sony. I guess they think it's cool to not ride with the mainstream and just be something different not caring graphics-wise. That may be good and bad for all the right reasons. I just think that they are being overly-conservative.

gpturbo813893d ago

not only is it on par, its much better. power is easy. getting a second screen to run as smoothly as they have, with as many features as it has, is not being done by sony/microgreed. their attempt to use vita/ps4 combo, is laughable at best.

Kalebninja3893d ago

noone wanted a second freakin screen thats just something extra their console is nowhere as powerful as ps4/xbone and they are missing out on ALOT of third party games because of it so no they are not on par the gamepad is fun and all but it should have been something extra

hollabox3893d ago

Price drop is good, but they still need a consistent stream of killer apps. But hey its a step in the right direction. Now the Nintendo 2Ds I think they took a step back.

live2play3893d ago (Edited 3893d ago )

A constant stream of games? U mean like pikmin in August, wonderful 101 and rayman in September? Windwaker and sonic in October? Mario 3d land, link between two worlds and Mario party in November? Donkey Kong in December?

well I got news for you buddy.

and the 2ds isn't for you, its not to be better or replace the 3ds. Its a cheap alternative for families with little kids. How is that a step back?

get it through your head that the 2ds is not supposed to be making us go crazy with hype.

hollabox3893d ago

Live2play please, 1 decent kid game a month mixed with Disney is not exactly killer apps.

s45gr323893d ago

Apart from wonderful 101 and Pikmin aren't those titles the same game franchises from the eighties. The new super Mario world is just super Mario 3D land except for the cat suits, Donkey Kong Country tropical freeze is very similar to klonoa 2 or the recent Rayman games. Then there is the played out fitness game and party game. Still the best wii u games are coming next year you know the ones that actually sell systems like Mario kart 8, bayoneta 2, smash brothers, etc. The whole 2D DS system is pointless.

Misaka_x_Touma3893d ago

are you a kid or person who cant see 3d if not then why bother. Not like it was announce at a event or Nintendo Direct

Donnieboi3893d ago

Kids have a problem perceiving 3d? I never heard of that.

gamer423893d ago

@Donnieboi,
Its been proven kids under 7 seeing The 3d on The 3ds can negatively Affect their vision

Misaka_x_Touma3893d ago

@Donnieboi

Yes Glasses Free 3D

falcon973893d ago (Edited 3893d ago )

Where is the consistant stream of killer apps on ps4 i see 1 game Killzone and that game does not sell consoles though...

Misaka_x_Touma3893d ago

Peppy:"100 comments in coming from the rear drop altitude!"

AKR3893d ago

He has a point.

That's how it was last-gen and it's the same thing this-gen.

Reason being;

At their cores - The XOne and PS4 are just a highly upgraded PS3 & 360. Yes, they have their new controllers, but they still share the key qualities that make it an Xbox and a PlayStation. There isn't much game-changing stuff going on with either of them except for the new, nearer-to-PC architecture and upgraded specs. That's it. Everything else is basically similar to what's found in their predecessor.

s45gr323893d ago

You are talking about software which I agree completely. Hardware wise the PS4 and Xbox One are different from their predecessor, software wise is the same. The only difference is how much different are these open world games going to be. If say open world games are like this generation with main missions and side missions that's it no mini games, alternate endings, able to change say story through your actions then is going to suck

falcon973893d ago

Yes xbox1 and ps4 are off the shelf hardware,ps3 and 360 were custom hardware ie they get more and more powerful over time unlike off the shelf or stock you basically get almost 100% power from the off so 1080p native looks hard to achieve on ps4 and co......

Nintendo and the surprising success of the 3DS

While Sony and Microsoft duke it out in the gaming console wars this holiday season, here's something to think about: Nintendo's handheld device, the 3DS, to date, has still outsold both of them. Combined.

Surprised? You'd be forgiven if you were, especially as mobile games seem to be taking over the handheld market. Sure, the 3DS has quite a few years on the latest consoles, having been introduced in 2011. Nintendo has said the 3DS has sold at least 50.41 million units since its introduction. The PlayStation 4 has sold just over 30 million units to date; Microsoft doesn't report sales figures for the Xbox One, but estimates put it at around 17.1 million units since its launch.

This true but 3DS has been release few years before PS4 and XBO. I mean we cannot compare numbers.

3-4-53059d ago

Surprising Success ?

LITERALLY every Nintendo handheld ever has been very successful.

Oh Washington Post....once again proving how out of touch with reality you are.

What a click bait article from a "credible" news source. lol

MasterCornholio3059d ago

I love my New 3DS.

https://cdn02.nintendo-euro...

I bought the black Monster Hunter bundle and i adore the system. What i like the most about it is that i get a nostalgic feeling every time i see those colored buttons. The New 3DS is a fantastic system to own and in my opinion i like it even more than the New 3DS XL. Also Xenoblade is awesome on it!!!!!

Now that my praises for the system are over lets discuss sales.

They are quite good and certainly much better than the Vitas. However, unlike the DS the 3DS failed to capture the casual market. Lacking games like Brain Training or Training for your Eyes they failed to capture non gamers like they did before. Also the fact that the casuals dont need a dedicated handheld to play games on the go also hurts its sales. As a result the 3DS hasnt been selling on the same level as its predecessor.

However over 50 million is still extremely good for a dedicated gaming handheld. And hopefully Nintendo never stops producing them because we gamers need an alternative to smartphone and tablet gaming.

Thank you for reading my post and i hope you enjoyed my opinion.

BUY ONE NOW!!!!!!!!!

Or if your gaming on a budget the 2DS is a good option as well. That was the first one that i bought and i still own my Sapphire Blue 2DS that was bundled with Pokemon Alpha Sapphire.

Shadowsteal3059d ago

I can't buy the standard black new 3ds in the u.s though :/

MasterCornholio3059d ago

I bought mine in Europe.

But its coming to the USA.

Shadowsteal3058d ago

Do you know when by any chance? D:

zugdar3059d ago

Its all about software.

Both the DS and 3DS have great libraries of unique titles. I'm assuming that it being a lighter system it is also cheaper for devs to make the risks of new IP and ideas.

What sets this apart from Wii and Wiiu is that the DS systems have great A+ 3rd party support.

Double_O_Revan3059d ago

It's not that surprising. Nintendo the king of handhelds. Sure the 3DS stumbled at first, but what do you expect when you price a handheld at $250? But once the price dropped and all support shifted from the DSi to the 3DS, there weren't really many options for people who wanted to continue playing the games they know and love.

Italiano12345673059d ago

Y is it surprising they rule the handheld market

Nintendo EVP exclusive: Resisting temptation and embracing innovation

Like a lot of industries these days, repetition is everywhere in gaming, whether it's a shooter or an open-world game. However, one company that refuses to be predictable, repetitive or boring with its products is Nintendo.

I didn't even click the article. These guys can't even open their mouths without their Japanese overlords (Nintendo chairpersons) giving permission. They're just puppets.

Dunban673236d ago (Edited 3236d ago )

A Reggie esque corporate shill in the making- We have prob heard the last of Iwata and the top Japanese execs shilling for the wii U going forward-

They will let Nintendo NA execs make themselves look bad now- They will prob take a little better care of their home market folk re the Wii U too if current/past trends remain

I ll take an educated guess that they are not too happy w Splaton sales in the West so far- Splatoon has done well in Japan and even moved a few consoles but considering the marketing budget they had for it in NA I don t think they could be too happy w sales as they seem to be lower than in Japan and I doubt Splatoon moved too many consoles in NA either- we will see soon enough but he would have given out some numbers if they were really happy

He did not make any effort to dissuade anyone that the NX would be here in 2016- I tookhis "may not be a transition year" comment to be very general in nature and not in any way aimed at the NX subject

He did talk about how great the Wii U s 3rd party support has been and will be- one of the many shill comments imo.

Nodoze3236d ago (Edited 3236d ago )

How great the Wii U 3rd party support has been. I will take 2 of whatever this cat is smoking as it is some powerful sheet!!!

I get that he has to spin things, but man that is just flat out delusional.

Canary3236d ago

Nintendo really wants to push Amiibo.

And I can see why. They're probably much more profitable than actually developing games.

KaladinStormblessed3236d ago (Edited 3236d ago )

"All of that content" should keep us busy until new hardware arrives? What content? The 4 or 5 WiiU games that were all announced last year? An AC skin of Mario Party? A Mario sports game that no one wanted or was really excited for? There are a few games, like Xenoblade, StarFox, and MarioMaker, but that's not going to last us till the end of 2016 or 2017. Devils third and Fatal Frame apparently don't exist according to Nintendo, which isn't helping the stereotype that Nintendo is a kiddy company.

I was all for Nintendo and the WiiU right up until this E3. Very few new games coming out, and can I even trust you guys with the NX anymore? It better be way more powerful than PS and XB, and better not have some "innovative" hardware that's actually just a gimmick. I love the WiiU game pad, so wouldn't mind if they kept that. Innovate with the software Nintendo not the hardware.

morganfell3236d ago

All I can say is with the Wii U I have purchased my last Nintendo console.

ABizzel13236d ago

I'm almost in the same boat, but buy it near the end of the generation instead. Their first party is worth it, but save a ton of money buying the hardware at its cheapest as well as all the games.

Gamer7773236d ago

The last Nintendo platform I had before purchasing a Wii U in fall of 2014 was a Gameboy advance. I bought the Wii u cause I thought Nintendo was really turning things around in 2014. They had great games and their sales increased and the future of the console looked brighter. What I saw at E3 just a few days ago made it seem like Nintendo was preparing to phase out the Wii U by 2017.

VJGenova3235d ago

The wii was my last Nintendo purchase. The motion control was a gimmick that didn't get 3rd party support and felt forced in many games like super mario galaxy. Why do I have to shake to attack?

Also their whole mobile strategy never made sense to me either. I hate handheld gaming. That was why Super Gameboy was so amazing!
