this shows what people are saying
gamers buy nintendo systems to play nintendo games
3rd party software is pretty much a dead issue for publishers. 3rd party games are bought on 360 or ps3

Realplaya4329d ago

It's not that they buy the system for only their games. Here is proof Pikmin 3 was supposed to be released at launch. It wasn't finished and might have needed a patch to work. They pushed the game back and added new features and polished the game. Look at the scores it's a highly rated game on the platform. This goes to show Nintendo gamers buy high quality software.

Misaka_x_Touma4329d ago

where the Pikmin 3 not system seller people at

Kevlar0094329d ago

They're not amazing numbers, but still good

I would expect Mario World to be the big sell

awesomeabe19984329d ago

I agree with you but i just want to add something. How about SSB4, Mario Kart 8, X, and Bayonetta 2?(and maybe Miyamoto's new IP, and Retro's game in development that is not DKCTF)

ritsuka6664329d ago

This game is toppin the charts in Japan and that it helped increase hardware and it can't be denied.

PsychOff4329d ago (Edited 4329d ago )

No one is denying that Pikmin 3 is selling well but the fact of the matter is that it still is not selling that many Wii U systems.

A system seller would mean that it is literally selling more systems when it really hasn't been by much. Sure it sold a bit more but not enough to celebrate over. Wii U hardware sales are back down to where they have been the past couple months. It had a short spike when the game was released and that was it. It didn't last.

Sure its great this game is selling well but many of you ignore the Wii U part of it.

It is just like the PS Vita, you guys can't seriously expect one game to sell a huge majority of hardware. It takes a lot of good software to do that, not just one good game.

PS Vita had a lot of great months just like this but as you can see it really didn't do much for the hardware side of things. Sure a lot of those games sold like hot cakes but again both of those sales are important. Not one or the other.

Yep4329d ago (Edited 4329d ago )

Except the Vita wouldn't follow up with more great looking games like the 3DS did (and still is) and like the Wii U is now. But this is a whole 'nother discussion and your logic isn't wrong as far as I'm concerned.

RicardJulianti4329d ago

A system seller is LITERALLY any game that helps move consoles.

Pikmin 3 has helped move consoles in both the US and in Japan. It doesn't matter by how many...because an increase in sales was brought upon by Pikmin 3...and nothing else.

When bigger games release, more systems will sell, and so on. Pikmin 3 was just the start of the snowball effect.

unknownbystander4329d ago

Pikmin 3 was not ment to be a big system seller. It merely took part on building momentum for Wii U sales in the future. Please don't forget that.

ritsuka6664329d ago

Here buddy...lol

PsychOff4327d ago (Edited 4327d ago )

What you all don't understand is I am not dismissing or even saying this isn't a good start. I merely am pointing out a very bias perception some of you have especially Misaka_x_Touma.

The PS Vita currently is selling more hardware than the Wii U still even with Pikmin 3. So here is my point and why I responded to Misaka_x_Touma. No one ever acknowledges that for the PS Vita if rarely, its just always dead and doomed but when the Wii U does a little better people feel the need to start bragging?

If you notice Misaka_x_Touma is always going around "Where the Wii U haters at?" but he is always down playing the PS Vita. Always, so this is a good start to him...? Then he says things like this about the PS Vita when its hardware sales are doing better.

"PS Vita comeback
PS Vita didn't really has such buzz to begin with.
Other than Launch week and Japan Price Drop.

And no PS4 won't save it.
That like saying PS3 saved PSP.

PSP saved itself with games Japanese owners wanted and it was able to be hack."

You see how contradicting that is? So the Wii U a system that is currently selling less than the PS Vita even with the release of Pikmin 3 is somehow extremely special to Misaka_x_Touma. When the PS Vita is selling more hardware though somehow it means nothing to that person, the PS Vita can't come back to them and it will never be successful even with the PS4.

I mean seriously how contradicting can a person be? Can you see the bias I speak about now?

I never said it wasn't moving systems, I never said it was doing terribly either I just said its not a huge deal that many of you are making it out to be. I am not flipping tables and throwing parties over Vita sales just yet either.

You guys can argue over who has better games all day. I was never here to talk or even bring that up. Simply talking about hardware sales.

I also very well know it takes time but I am still not one to ignore the problems that exist now with either system. I can easily assume in the future both the PS Vita and Wii U will be fine, sure they will but the current situation right now and what matters right now, is that both of them aren't doing so well. Still aren't even with top selling software.

So celebrate when its actually time to, not when they cannot profit off of the systems sold. With pikmin 3 selling like hot cakes it doesn't make much of a difference because that fact still stands.

The PS Vita has had a lot of games be in the top charts also selling the system well just the same but you see those sales didn't last and are back down again and so is the Wii U.

I am simply saying there is no need to start bragging and celebrating yet so early on. I own both myself but I am not blind yet.

Misaka_x_Touma4327d ago (Edited 4327d ago )

oh look someone keeping tabs on me

you wanna know why i be in Vita articles. Cause I want one and sony not giving me enough reason so what do i do.

I speak my mind. Vita is not selling better than Wii U outside Japan.

Not only that Vita is almozt two years old and only 1.7m units in Japan while Wii U is at 1m in Japan in 9 months.

I don't post my comments in vita articles to hate.

Yall just too sensitive and vocal.
You see sony fanboys not fans the fanboys all the time on here and YouTube like that.

First, the chart information is from VGchartz. So I can't take it seriously. Second, selling out is not an amazing task. We don't know how many copies of Pikmin 3 gamesstop ordered. It could of been 300,000 or 30,000. We need concrete numbers. Third, the game is still availble to buy on amazon so again that tell me that gamestop ordered a small shipment of numbers. It kind of sad how much reaching the author of this article did. I know you're a fan of nintendo but atleast get some facts.

Misaka_x_Touma4329d ago

Of course the US, EU and AU aren't gonna be accurate but they are close enough.
Japan sales accurate.

Realplaya4329d ago

A lot of people downloaded the game to so the VGchartz numbers could also be underscored what was sold as well.

Yep4329d ago (Edited 4329d ago )

Would you like me to start lying?

Or do you have facts that prove the article is stretching the truth? I'm seriously interested. The article reports that news about Pikmin 3 sales. It's also a fact that it's sold out at Gamestop. Vgchartz is also known for reporting less than the actual amount, not more. So you really haven't built up any type of argument against anything, but the made up claims you put in the mouth of the author.

Somehow, you got offended by these facts and thought the article was claiming more than what it actually did. I know you don't like Nintendo, but Wii U is a piece of plastic. Let it go.

KonsoruMasuta4329d ago

Mika, couldn't resist trolling.

guitarded774329d ago

-Mika- is a troll (especially on Nintendo articles), but he/she has a good point, and makes it without bashing Nintendo. This particular comment of -Mika-'s is not trolling... please don't misuse that word, it reflects poorly on you and others will follow suit.

TongkatAli4329d ago

Who cares about sales the game is great and more people should be playing it. Enough with the Haterade, this game is good and got amazing reviews.

Mika has a point though, but Mika don't know that Nintendo did have commercials for Pikmin 3. This could have sold a lot.

AbortMission4329d ago

And how many copies did Gamestop receive? I would imagine a small shipment due to Pikmin 3's below then average sales.

Gamer Tries to Sell PS4 Pro to GameStop, Ends Up Being Asked to Pay the Store

A gamer tried to sell his PS4 Pro to GameStop USA and found out that he would actually have to pay the store.

Lionsguard110d ago

Gamestop: And I'm taking a huge risk here.

1Victor110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

Well there’s no stop like GameStop I’m surprised they didn’t go deeper into the hole with their USED cables and controllers prices.
Edit:
For those that don’t know if you go to trade a console you need it to be ready to go with all the controllers and cables if you don’t have them they ask you to buy them and deduct the price from the monetary appraised for the console

Gamingsince1981110d ago

That makes perfect sense really, why would you be selling your console without all the things it came with and needs to actually be used.

jznrpg110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

eBay.. not having anything for it makes it seems stolen though

Profchaos110d ago

Not always I've seen plenty of refurbished units go cheap because people have picked them up broken then repaired and onsold with no controller or cable. When they are this old many people just want to replace the main unit

jznrpg109d ago

I doubt those people are selling at GameStop

BeHunted110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

In the UK, eBay has removed selling fees, letting you list and sell any item for free.

andy85109d ago

Correct. This is why day one games cost me practically nothing now

Eonjay109d ago

They are gonna take that same console and sell it for $300.

Inverno110d ago

GameStop era ended in the teens. Let it die bruh.

S2Killinit109d ago

I love gamestop. I still shop there. I prefer buying a game from a game store than a department store.

Inverno109d ago

I preferred goin to Circuit City but that died out. Years back I'd go to Best Buy cause of Gamer Club, now Best Buy barely sells games and doesn't sell Blu-rays and looks dead most of the time. Same with GameStop, these stores look like a barren wasteland of Funko Pops and anime figures. These retail stores don't seem to care about pulling in customers. Those figurines are neat, I collect them too but they ain't pulling me into a GS. Rather than attracting gamers they've pay walled everything behind a subscription. As if they weren't already cheapskates back then with their trade ins.

FinalFantasyFanatic109d ago

I still go in there and browse, but never buy anything, the video game section is getting smaller and smaller, even the PS5/Series X/Switch game selection is getting tiny.

tiron8109d ago

I miss Best Buy's Gamer Club, I used to get pre-orders for like 20% off often with other discounts then get points I could trade into discount rebates. It was so good, getting day 1 games for like $30.

When they shut that down I stopped buying games day 1 almost completely.

raWfodog110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

I stopped going to GameStop when they no longer let me use my monthly $5 rewards points towards PS network cards.

Knightofelemia110d ago

Weird I live in Canada and the Gamestop near me says you need the console, controller, controller cord, and an HDMI cord before they will take a console on trade. And if the console shows signs of being opened they still won't take the machine. And if you upgrade the PS4 HDD from 500 gig to a 1TB they will count that machine as modified and label it as a 500 gig model. Better to just sell it on Facebook Marketplace.

clevernickname109d ago

I also live in Canada. I had a similar experience trading in an Xbox One S. Gamestop would give me a pittance for it, so I sold it on Marketplace for almost as much as the original selling price.

GameStop plans widespread store shutdowns after closing 300 locations last year

GameStop has announced plans to shut down stores across the country after closing 300 locations just last year.

The popular gaming retailer says net sales have fallen 20 percent, now sitting at $860 million - a drastic change from its $1.08 billion in 2023.

Also giving you about $5.00 off for buying a used game is just bullshit. For example: https://www.gamestop.com/vi... New is $59.99, if your going to sell it for a used price it needs to be at least $10-$20 less. I hope GameStop just goes away.

OtterX197d ago

Same nonsense they were doing 20 years ago. 🙄

Time to take old yeller out behind the shed...

Grilla197d ago (Edited 197d ago )

One of the reasons I went digital. I used to trade games in back in the day when money was tighter. Trading a game in for 10-15$ isn’t worth the trouble. Especially when they turn around and sell it for almost full price.

RhinoGamer88197d ago

Not surprising, but sad. WooT is killing it with their game discounts...on new games.

raWfodog197d ago

This is just market forces adjusting for GameStop’s long-time practices of nickel and diming the consumer. I feel bad for the workers though. It’s not good that they have to lose their jobs over this.

P_Bomb197d ago

Unfortunate for the staff, but not unexpected.

46player197d ago

Not too surprising. Lots of people buying digital.

And GameStops trade in and resale pricing strategy is awful for customers. I will miss them when they are gone though.

Most I will miss being able to trade in a console, get a couple hundred towards the new model like PS5 to PS5 Pro.

SonyStyled197d ago

I’ll miss the midnight launch parties. Standing in line with strangers sharing our excitement about a video game. Digital took that from us. I wish younger audiences could experience how joyful it was

Kombatologist197d ago

I often think about times like that and how good we had it, before social media and smart phones gave way to a generation that expects instant gratification.
