Game of the Year? Bioshock Infinite vs The Last of Us

Every year around this time this topic usually comes up, as most of the big names have been released and played by many people. Opinions have formed and decisions have been made, so I’m going to give my opinion on the matter and talk about the games that I think should be the Game of the Year.

TLOU GOTY as a single player driven game with an unforgettable gaming experience, and unforgettable characters

GTA V GOTY as an overall fun game you will play the next time.

Both are / will be the best games we have seen ever. (I dont think GTA V will be disappoiting)

I just finished Bioshock Infinite and while I enjoyed it and had more can't stop playing sessions than I did the Last Of Us (single player anyway), The Last of Us was the better and more memorable experience for me plus the multiplayer is surprisingly excellent.

Neither is a bad game though

There are instances where you CAN judge a game before you've played it, but that only happens when you've already literally scene so much of the game that playing it is a formality to gauge the experience for yourself. That hasn't happened with GTA V yet. And even still, GTA IV proved you can't just take a GTA game at face value and expect it to be amazing.

But let's just forget that because we want GTA V to be great and Rockstar can't fail... even though they already did once.

Ni No Kuni was great and all, but compared to the likes of Bioshock Infinite and the Last of Us, it's nothing. Those two games are on a completely different level.

Def pick Ni No Kuni, Fire Emblem Awakening, or SMT4. All three are far better games IMO. As good as TLoU was it was a mass market shooter like a million others. Ni No Kuni was wholly original. I got 3/4 of the way through TLoU and got bored, it wasn't really fun. SMT4 I CAN'T put down. That's the difference.

I did enjoy The Last of Us more then Infinite. It felt fresh, and Infinite, while still a good game felt like more of the same. Not saying that's bad because Bioshock has great gameplay and a decent story and setting, but the Last of Us just felt like a new, refreshing experience for me.

They're both amazing games, but I gotta say the last of us. The immersion was amazing, though for some reason I have a feeling GTA V will win all the awards. Not saying that's the game of the year because I haven't played it yet, but the fact that it's a gta game means that tons of websites will give them the award. Still, these are all great games.

If have to say TLOU edges BioShock. I loved the story of Infinite (dat ending), but TLOU has a top notch story and gameplay in my opinion, something I felt was slightly lacking in Infinite. The combat was above average, but not amazing to me. I loved the story of TLOU just a little more (dat ENDING)... It had more of those jaw dropping 'moments' (the last half of the game, the ending of a certain section, the beginning, etc.). But Infinite was still a lot of fun.

Bioshock Infinite for me. TLOU had a great ending, but Infinite's ending, however superficial it may seem, left me in awe

Bioshock by a long shot...it didn't waste it's time with a pointless MP, the story and gameplay was MUCH better..and it was one of the few times where having a companion was actually a help instead of burden.

I understand that everyone has an opinion but do you have a ps3? Preferring infinite is one thing but to say that the story and gameplay was MUCH better is slight hyperbole. The multiplayer in TLOU is actually fun and adds replayability to an already great game. Try it sometime you may like it.

Infinite was a worsened, re-skinned Bioshock whose only decent character was Elizabeth, and there was no story told until the last 10 minutes of the game. The rest of the game was all filler shooting.

It had pretty colors and baked lighting though.

I laugh so hard when I unexpectedly see these people advertise how they make money and stuff. I think it's mainly the people's reaction to it and how it pops out of nowhere, is it just me? :P

@DragonKnight you are 100% correct Rockstar has failed once, but the have produced L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption, Manhunt, Max Payne, Midnight Club, and All of the great GTA games out there. I dont know, i got about 60% through TLOU and have not picked it back up in a couple weeks. Im kinda bored with it. Seemed too much like another Uncharted game. Besides the story, it just seemed more of the same game.

I think it is way overrated! If you are playing a game for the story, then people have got alot to learn. Im all about my PS3 exclusives, but this has got to be one of the most boring ones to me. Im not really getting all the high scores. This is coming from a long time Sony junkie!

Ive played way too many games and to say i am gonna think this is the best game because of the acting and movie sequences, is just plain ludicrous! Its about the gameplay, i rather a game have no story and focus more on the damn gameplay.

If i wanted to watch a movie, i would go watch one! I wanna play games, and want new innotive ideas. Not just the same mindless gameplay over and over again, with just another coat of paint. Dont you want a challenge? I felt no challenge at all with TLOU and Uncharted. I dont like to feel a game holding my hand the whole way through. Shoot a few guys, duck behind something, stealth kill a cpl more, repeat this over and over again! I preferred Infamous personally.

I still bought them all and beat all 3 Uncharted games. It just felt like i was doing the same thing again here. If you cant see that, you must be new to gaming. but every time i see someone say TLOU have any thing in commen with uncharted gameplay i don't take him srsly at all
they share nothing in commen at all beside the gfx engine

1.Stealth: Uncharted stealth is just snap a guy neck or take him down from a cover and that's it
the last of us you can either choke a guy to death or hold him as a shild or kill him with a shiv or smash his head in the wall or with your leg or while holding them you shot them in the head with your guns

non of that is in uncharted gameplay
how that even close to uncharted gameplay ?!

2.combat: The last of us mele combat is as real as a game gets and very vilont as well
and best part about it is that it let you use bricks,bottles,pipes,Machete as mele weapens and every one of them have different animation and use them to distract your enemies and the hand to hand combat is very tense and real and you can react with environment around you while using smoke bombs and molotov
and non of that was in any uncharted games

again how that even close to uncharted gameplay ?!

3.gunplay: enemies take one shot or two max and while shooting the gunplay ND made sure to make it feel and look real and the ammo is very scare and low so you can't go rambo in this game because you will die the moment you try

4.the AI: the enemies in TLOU flank you and come at you from behind and hold you and very smart and some of the best AI in any game ever made

and they beg for their life when they are down or the last one in the room run to hide when he don't have gun

while in uncharted they come at you and don't even try to take cover

so again how that even close to uncharted gameplay ?!

5.options in gameplay: TLOU offer you option to either stealth or use guns or avoid all enemies a

like i said they share nothing in commen and everyone who have a brain know that

i'm gaming since atari and played pretty much all of games and own every console and pretty strong PC
and yes TLOU is the best game i have played this gen
because first the gameplay is very awesome and unlike any uncharted game where you just gun your way to the next point
TLOU have very low ammo and force you to think before you make any move
and offer tons of options to do what i want in pretty open places
and 2nd because the story and acting

playing this game on hard and survival (turn off listen mod which was the first thing i did when i got the game never used it) is tense as hell

and lol TLOU hold your hand ?! ...you are such a liar and that pretty much confirm you never played it
in my whole 21 hours of pure gameplay on hard
never once that happened beside only one time where you get hanged by a rope for and that's it

All the things you listed dont take away from the fact that the game just feels like another Uncharted. So, you get a few little add ons here and there. It still plays and feels like everything else ive been playing.

You dont need to try and sugarcoat it man. Every game these days requires you to either shoot or sneak up on someone. You missed my whole point maybe.Im tired of doing the same thing over and over in a game! There is no diversity. TLOU is all about long movie sequences and the acting. Thats where it received such high marks.
