Next Generation Consoles: Changing Gaming for the Better?

If any of you have been following recent gaming news, you’ll have heard all about the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One. They’ve announced several new features, new games and new ways to play. So what does this mean for us gamers? How will the new generation of consoles change gaming?

I really love PS4's vision, it's the purist's video game console imo. No game is too big and you can tell Sony put a lot of thought in it, from the architecture to the features to the price.

Like always Nintendo is trying to change our perception of consoles. I hope they find success, just because it would show alternative playstyles can succeed despite having less power as long as the content is great enough. And I don't what them to succeed because ppl feel sorry for them, but because they worked their asses off to make it a worthy next-gen console.

I'm a little skeptical of MS. It's nice to see them rethink their original restrictions, however there is a part of me that is afraid of what they might do next, it will take awhile before I gain trust in them again. They are still in the video game business, though it is apparant they want more than just video games (to branch out into more areas of entertainment with the Xbox brand). Their console has power and a few ace franchises up their sleeves (though I'm still wary of Kinect and what it will do to their system going forward)

With Sony learning from their PS3 mistakes, Nintendo finally starting to get things in gear, and MS realizing they aren't the one's in charge gives me optimism for the next gen. More importantly is the games we will get to play, I really can't wait

Not entirely true. They didn't learn from the ps3 we like free online and bc. Nor did they learn we don't like gimics like the new touchpad.

Many more pros than cons to be had next gen, but Im not going to dellusional and say it's all 100% better, no contest.

from PS1 to now, they have been changing things a lot an for the better. ps3 they tried focusing on pure power but at a price, of been hard too develop for.

now they went with less focus on power, more on ease of use. each generation of console is minor leap forward, but looking back from were we came from it much larger jump.

they could easily, double, triple, the power but with it comes, double, triple, the cost. an harder too make games for. as it was proven a poor market choice with ps3 so they took a step back an redid things.

I don't understand why MS is getting so much hardship for wanting to make their device do more than gaming.

Yes it has Kinect, Skype, Apps, Windows 8. Very true but why does that mean that is a digression of gaming.

What electronic device that is coming out in 2013 holds one singular purpose?

The other consoles want to do more than gaming also. Except MS is just more upfront about it. This upsets many here because they can't see that the other consoles are doing the same as MS.

Except for the whole thing about them trying to shaft everyone. If they hadn't done that I don't think the public opinion of them would be so bad right now. Even though they took it back, you can't erase the fact that they tried to do it in the first place.

No. We will see more games that have more DLC, more micro transactions and more of that kind of BS.

Sure there will be free to play... You will either be bombarded with ads and/or have to play 100's of hours to make any progress in the game without buying your way through.

Until the industry is fixed properly everyone better get used to it...
