New Tingle RPG details

Nintendo has confirmed that a new Zelda spin-off is currently in development for the Nintendo DS. It's titled Mogitate Tingle Bara Iro Rupee Land - which translates to Fresh Tingle's Rose Coloured Rupee Land. Tingle, you may recall, appeared in both Wind Waker and Majora's Mask - but in the new game, you play as him when he was aged just 35, and had yet to take on the Tingle form.

You're guided through the game by a bloke called Rupeeji ('Old Man Rupee'), who tells you to collect a load of rupees and chuck them into a magical spring. Then you'll be transported to Rupee Land and turned into Tingle.

You also get a bit of help from Pingle, a fairy type who communicates with you via a TV in your house. As you explore Rupee land, you'll have to hand over cash to the local inhabitants to keep them happy, and to pass through toll gates. The game is due out later this year.

IGN UK reviews Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

Of all the Nintendo support characters to get their own game, surely Tingle must seem like the most unlikely. He's a balding, 35-year-old fat bloke with a penchant for green body stockings and mannerisms so camp they make Kenneth Williams look positively butch. Yet here we are about to review a game that features not only Tingle as the lead character, but a bunch of other misfits that look like they've escaped from Hyrule's mental asylum. But while Tingle's quirky charms certainly won't be for everyone, those willing to look past some of the game's underlying shortcomings - and there are many - will discover something of a unique, albeit flawed, DS title.

Official site launches for Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland on DS

The official website has just gone live for possibly the strangest character Nintendo has ever created. A fairy-loving, 35-year-old bachelor who dresses a bit like Zelda's Link and has an unhealthy obsession with Rupees. Just look at him – he'd be more at home sitting by a garden pond with a fishing rod than starring in his own game.
