AusGamers has posted an excerpt from a forthcoming interview with Bohemia's Matthew Lightfoot who serves as production assistant on DayZ and is one of the original DayZ mod-team members, writing:
Of course, there have been many developers downplaying the importance of mods and the mod community in more recent times, something Lightfoot is happy to rebel against in the sheer success of their own product.
"The exec producer on Battlefield: Bad Company said something along the lines of “modding is dead”; well we certainly buried it alive didn’t we," he says with a laugh. "I loved ArmA because of the customisability: you could download a mod and get a new aircraft -- there was so many mods for it, and that’s what kept me playing. I’ve sunk thousands of hours into ArmA before DayZ even came about, and it expanded the lifecycle of the game indefinitely.
"So I certainly don’t think modding is dead. When you look at Half-Life and Black Mesa on the Source Engine, these things are huge games....
DayZ Frostline DLC gets review-bombed for its price and content. Dev responds, saying "No one is forcing players to buy it."
Yes, I saw that! The DayZ Frostline DLC has indeed faced a lot of backlash from players who feel that the $26.99 price tag is too high for what's included. The DLC adds a new snow-covered map called Sakhal, but many players feel it doesn't offer enough new content to justify the cost.
Bohemia Interactive's CEO, Marek Spanel, responded to the criticism by pointing out that the studio has received very little revenue per hour of gameplay from the game over the years. He even referenced the Beatles song "Please Please Me" in his response, highlighting the frustration with the situation.
It's definitely a heated debate.
DayZ has now managed to hit its new all-time-high player numbers with the release of the new Frostline expansion.
DayZ hotfix 1.25 is finally out, but instead of fixing the oft-complained-about duping glitch, the issue still hasn't been addressed.
Interesting.
isn't this coming to PS4?
Wow someone at DICE actually had the audacity to come out and claim the modding scene is dead? Corporate suck up! After all their attempts at reconnecting with gamers, I now hate EA again and more passionately than ever. If they released mod tools for Battlefield 4, the mod community would show them just how dead the scene really is.. ofcourse they wouldn't do that because then they run the risk of cutting into their oh so precious DLC sales.
DICE is not the same people who brought us BF 1 and 2. All the originals left. They are just drones now.
Mods bring a new lease of life to old games. Gta IV with the ICEnhancer mod or the Hulk mod bring a fresh new perspective to the standard formula
