The important thing to remember about Transistor is that the developers have created an entire new world just for the game. The main protagonist is named Red, a celebrity who is being hunted by five assassins. During a struggle with these assassins Red finds a weapon known as Transistor, and is transported across the city in an instant. Transistor has absorbed the consciousness of a man Red knows well, and he will act as her guide throughout the game.
