Licensed Games That Didn’t Suck: Van Helsing

A lone man, dedicated to seeking out vile, unholy monsters and ridding them from the Earth. No, I’m not talking about the average forum moderator. I’m talking about Bram Stoker’s famous monster hunter, Abraham Van Helsing. It’s too bad that the 2004 film Van Helsing, in which in the character was played by Hugh Jackman and strangely renamed to Gabriel Van Helsing, was a cheesy mess. Kind of like nachos that exploded in the microwave, I suppose.

Luckily, that film served as a platform for a tie-in game, one that was considerably more fun and interesting. Developed by Saffire and released in 2004 for the PS2 and Xbox, Van Helsing was a rip-roaring good time slashing and shooting through Transylvania that still holds up well today.
