The announcement changes everything. Its put the consoles on level pegging. Sure at the beginning the X1 is more expensive.

But so was the PS3 at the beginning of this generation and look how well the PS3 has done.

The features that the X1 had when it had DRM sounded incredible.

But the world at the moment isn't ready for it. Once the Internet is fully available all around the world either via Fiber Optics or something similar. Then no one should care about it.

But IMO Microsoft Future proof console is too far in the future for the current time.

Its like releasing and Iphone Or Galaxy phone 10 years ago when phone connections sucked and there was no such thing as 4G.

So having a far more up to date LIVE with a better servers that will be easier to implement because it could be done every 24 hours.

The day 1 release via the cloud would be better because it would be all games not just 1st party and some 3RD party. Which is all there is on the PS3 and the 360

You can already do that on PS3 (and hopefully on the PS4 too) where you have digital games and you can access them from any PS3 but you still need the bandwidth to download them. So if you're in a friend's house with a connection of only 4-10MB trying to download Uncharted 3 then good luck with that... A 20GB download will take hours.

As far as next-gen console MMOs go last time I checked PS4 was getting War Thunder, Planetside 2, Warframe, Elder Scrolls Online, and Final Fantasy XIV. Some with cross-platform play connectivity with PC. Also, Warhammer coming to X1 and PS4.

The PS3 was more expensive BECAUSE it was also a Blu ray player, they cost a fortune at the time.

Then we have blu ray discs people mocked and laughed at, then years later we were lucky because some devs had trouble fitting games onto the Xbox 360 discs. Hell who knows how many games could of had more content but was held back because they couldn't fit it onto a dvd type disc.

Sony was only thinking a head at the time, if the 360 wasn't around, people would of glady bought it.

Yeah they are charging for MP but unlike XBLG you actually get your money back and more. With PS+ you get a ton of free games and not just 2 games from years back but games that dropped this year or even a couple of months back. Add to that look at XBLG you paid to play online but PS+ gets spectator mode for all games, play while you download a new game and uploud videos to Facebook/Ustream/Youtube/Twitt er and Im sure twitch tv will come as well.

Its about options and content with services for price value and PS+ is a clear winner. Talking TV features as future proofing the XB1 is a joke because the newer gen of gamers dont really watch live TV any more...so what does it really bring to the table...cloud oh wait PS4 has cloud and had it 1st on PS3 begore 360. With Gaikia and PS4s cloud everything the XB1 can do it can but better because everyone seems to forget the PS4 has a 2nd chip for additional functionality and right now its background services but those will shift to cloud down the road which will free up even more power.

One last thing to add PS4 has a more powerful GPU and superiour RAM and more of that RAM is free to use on games and versus less for XB1s on TV/Kinect UI or inflated OSs.

Even if billions of pc have sold and that maybe true if you count every pc ever sold not every one uses their pc to play games
Then I guess you would have to break that number down into every new graphics card and all pc advancements in tech. Your argument might be more on point if new pc tech came out every couple years lime game consoles and not every few months.
Pc gaming is pretty good no denying but there is a reason that consoles get the most attention from media to gamers to devs, remember a not long ago many people thought pc gaming was dead.

I would say taking Sony down from #1 to neck in neck is a major accomplishment. worldwide PS3 and 360 are 70 million each. gen before that, sony was 140 million. so who lost?

Really takiing sony down to neck to neck? 360 out a year earlier. With the first launch of next gen consoles, the main reason with so many rrod. Was at a lower price point. Due to it not having blu ray or hdmi or wireless.

Sure Sony came out slow of the gate, but man did it finish in full stride.

Honestly, I don't see how the X1 can compete. They're both releasing around the same time, and the PS4 is cheaper. All the DRM doesn't help either. The PS3 came out a year later and still outsold in every country except America, and the UK. I expect the PS4 to outsell in UK. And in America, who knows. I think the sales in America will be a lot closer this time around.

Remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. Both systems will be great and I expect the PS4 to come out on top at the end but with this change by MS, I expect it to even the gap by a lot.

It's true that it doesn't change anything as far as the consumer and true gamer who wouldn't take all the bs M$ spews forth and brings. Sony is dev and consumer focused. Playstation is still by far the dominant platform for gamers. 1. Far better value to the consumer. M$ will be making almost $250 profit for every Xbone sold. Sony will only be makin $25 profit for every PS4, and it's being sold for $100 less at launch! 2. The PS4 is far more powerful. 3. No camera requirement. 4. More exclusive, varied, exciting, superior games. 5. Exclusive content. 6. No online requirement (not even to set up your console) 7. Better controller. 8. Remote play. 9. Playstation app. 10. PS+. 11. Gaikai. M$ 'cloud computing' is just a marketing gimmick to trick idiots into thinking it actually means anything. Maybe in the future it could mean something, however Sony even stated that they could easily do 'cloud computing' as well. lt's simply not something that's relevant in our day in age...
