Forget Xbox One and PS4 - Apple's iOS 7 gamepad API could be the real game changer

E3 is drawing to a close, but rather than being all sewn up by Microsoft's Xbox One, Sony's PlayStation 4 or Nintendo's Wii U, it's Apple who've just made the real game-changing gaming announcement. iOS 7 for iPhone and iPad is set to introduce an official controller API, opening the floodgates for hardcore gaming on iOS devices.

This won't be a game changer. Mainly because majority of the best selling iOS games are better with touch controls than a dedicated controller. People rather play games like Angry Bird and Temple Run with their hands than a controller.

I could see games like Dead Trigger, Infinity Blade, Shadowgun, and some of those Gameloft and EA games utilizing this but everything else not so much.

If anyone thinks this is a game changer they are seriously deluded! Physical game controllers have been around forever, now it's available for an Apple product and the article's author treats like the second coming!

Such small thinking in these comments. Think bigger people. Think if they finally approved the onlive app which streams full PC games. Then the ipad becomes something I can take anywhere and play AAA games. Forget xbox or PS, I wouldn't need them.

Sony bought Gaikai; not OnLive. There's a reason for that. OnLive is nice, but the quality you get from their streaming is horrible on a phone/tablet.

We can already use controllers on Android. I've played Batman: Arkham City on my phone via OnLive, using a controller. It's ok, but the visual quality suffers, the frame rate makes precision on anything a joke, and it's just inconvenient to carry a controller around with you.

If anything, it would be things like the Dead Space port or Modern Combat 4 that change how we game. These are quality titles. I'm sure we'll see more in the future.
