Gaming expertise and the evolution of critique
I am not an expert on gaming, just to get that out of the way. However, I did have a childhood and was lucky enough to go to university – two periods of my life which I viewed as voids to be filled. I’d love to claim that I crammed in daring exploits, debauchery and bohemian escapades that only a privileged First-Worlder could take for granted, but it was mostly games. And yet, I’m still about as prepared to call myself an expert as a toddler is to defuse a thermonuclear device. That said, the ability to stream and post videos to YouTube is shifting the need for ‘expertise’ and rapidly changing our consumption of gaming critique.
