I have a bit of a confession. I love marble games, always have. Marble Madness on the NES, Super Monkey Ball on the Gamecube, that little wooden game my grandmother had (apparently called a Labyrinth Puzzle) and more recently Marble Blast Ultra on Xbox Live Arcade, I love them all. Give me a ball, a maze, some holes, and I’m there. I feel it is a horribly unrepresented genre in general, and there is no place where this is more apparent than the Android platform. It doesn’t seem to make sense, with so many devices including gyroscopic controls, the install base potential for these games are exceedingly large, and it is one of the few genres where gyroscopic controls are undeniably better than traditional ones, so it seems like a natural fit. Sadly the marble maze genre (not to be confused with the Marble Maze series which is just a ZUMA clone) is hopelessly sparse on the marketplace. Luckily, Core Dive is set to change that.
Risen Games has come out like gangbusters out of Boston with their first game challenging for king of the genre. Choosing to forego IAP,s their title, Core Dive, is receiving high praise from the gaming press, including here at GameWoof, receiving a four out of five woofs. On the front page of their Website Risen Games includes a biting commentary of the current trend of the industry. “We are here to make fun mobile games and break the current trend of filling them with ads.”
GameWoof was lucky enough to have Ryan LaPlume answer a few of my questions about Core Dive, IAPs, what inspires them as developers and he drops a hint at what their next game might include.
New developer studio, Risen Games, releases their first game, Core Dive; a tilt-based puzzle game with over 100 levels for iOS, Android, and Kindle.
