Naughty Dog Lead Artist: Prepare for the best MultiPlayer ever conceived - The Last Of Us

From what it appears,Naughty Dog (or at least Lead Artist Nate Wells) appears to be quite enthusiastic about The Last of Us' online component.

coming from ND this must be one hell of a multiplayer

Gazondaily4147d ago

A really bold statement but with this coming from the likes of Naughty Dog, who have in the past, been quite humble about their monumental achievements with the Uncharted franchise, they must really have something very special indeed.

I usually don't give in to statements such as this, which are usually designed to generate hype but considering how unique and amazing The Last of Us is already looking, we could have a potential game changer.

"And I REALLY can't prepare you for the best MP ever conceived...."

Wow

omi25p4147d ago

"Coming from ND this must be one hell of a multiplayer"

You mean like the copy and pasted Uncharted 3 mutliplayer that was EXACTLY the same as Uncharted 2 and didnt feature any of the improvements that were in the single player.

The best Multiplayer game this year will be GTA V, GTA IV is still one of the most played games on Live, PSN and steam.

LOGICWINS4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

They can say whatever they want. I'll judge it when I play it. ND has a track record of ruining already fantastic MP experiences with needless patches and boosters that break the balance of the game. UC3 MP was so unbalanced that it needed to go free to play to regain an audience in a desperate attempt to sell some DLC. Taking this into account, they SHOULD be humbled by now.

EDIT: Btw, in the past ND said that they wanted UC3 to be the "go to online game for the PS3"...look how that turned out. Everything ND says has to be put into question until the game releases.

ShabbaRanks4147d ago

@LOGICWINS

I couldnt agree more

DatNJDom814146d ago

I dunno. GOW:A multiplayer is probably the best multiplayer I have played this gen. But bring it Naughty Dog. You DESTROYED the competition with Uncharted 3 Multiplayer so I'm sure you will not disappoint.

Best Multiplayer games this gen (my opinion):

1. God of War: Ascension
2. Uncharted 3
3. Resistance 2
4. Uncharted 2
5. Resistance 1

Bobby Kotex4146d ago Show
Ragthorn4146d ago

@DatNJDom81

How come your favourite multiplayer games are just from those 3 franchises. Don't even make a top 5 list to be honest way too many multiplayer games. I loved Resistance, and Uncharted's multiplayer, but haven't tried Ascension's yet(will though). I don't wanna be rude, just saying though if you played more than 3 franchises(which still have good multiplayer).

slampunk4146d ago (Edited 4146d ago )

@DatNJDom81

I know i'm fortunate to have both consoles and a pc, but if resistance 2 and UC3 make your top 3 multiplayer games this gen i cant help but feel sorry for you...

COD 4 (all)
BF3 (Pc)
Gears of war 3
Halo 3
Fifa
Forza or GT5

+ lots more.

Then i think of games coming out in the next year that will probably have better MP than the last of us.

BF4
Destiny
Cod Ghosts
GTA V
Respawns new game
+ unannounced next gen games we'll probably hear about at E3.

I'm looking forward to the last of us but if i were naughty dog i wouldn't be making such bold claims this early in the piece!

Eyeco4146d ago (Edited 4146d ago )

Im gonna have to agree with you on that Uncharted 2 had the best multiplayer I've played in a game this gen, next to COD 4 and L4D, it was simple yet fun and reminded me of the old days playiny Quake 1 and Unreal.

But in UC3 they kinda dropped the ball, for starters the game was laggy as hell, they threw in these COD killstreaks and perks that and the health was too high, I dunno if it had somethijng to with lag but it literally took me 2 clips of an AK to kill someone.

That said given the type of game TLOU is I'm hoping the multiplayer is a co-op style of game kind of like the co-op in UC2-3 but with zombies.

eddvdm4146d ago (Edited 4146d ago )

First off I'm even more excited now that I decided to pre-order this (as everything I'm hearing seems to suggest:) masterpiece.

Second, @DatNJDom81 and some.. sometimes I wonder if you guys are experts on typing at phones or even at the ps3 or if you actually have a PC and live in gaming denial.

Some ps3 games have great MP but no way my top 5 great MP of all time would *only* have PS3 games (even though I love it, my only console atm).

JsonHenry4146d ago

I trust them for single player. Their multiplayer so far has been ho-hum and "meh". But they've never claimed it was that great either. So hopefully they back up this statement with something as awesome as their single player.

isarai4146d ago

@LOGICWINS

Track record? they only have 2 games with muliplayer and only one is what you described

DonFreezer4146d ago

Multiplayer sucks as most of you drones said. Horror games should be single player no co-op no multi no nothing but when all of this happen on your precious console you scream like little girls. Hypocrites much?

Freak of Nature4147d ago

I had a feeling that they would come out with a major bang after the very long period of silence...

Strong claim, and one I find myself to believe in knowing the source is from one of the "dog's"....

The confidence and passion make me believe, I cannot wait to see the magic...

Now I want to see the new IP in some form along with the Last of us MP details... Now thats a twin killing..

OlgerO4147d ago

OMFG just what I hoped this is going to add 50 hours to my game

Y_51504147d ago

Or like Uncharted 2 did, add 50 days.

solidt124147d ago

It would be dope if you could switch from 3rd person and 1st person in multi-player.

Crazyglues4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

Wait what???

Wow what a surprise, I already had this game as being Amazing just based off of the single player...

But to now find out we will be getting Multi-player too, I am just too excited now..

If I had to trust one company to know how to do something new and make an awesome MP experience it would be Naughty Dog...

Can't wait... Awesome News..

GribbleGrunger4147d ago

Imagine playing in an area full of clickers with 4 other players. The fun you could have throwing bottles near other players to attract the clickers to them ... Or how about rounding clickers up together! Get them into a room and lock the door.

NukaCola4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

This is what I thought too. I would love this. Can't wait either way.

BE ADVISED: A-Holes out there are trying to ruin this game. Please take caution when reading comments!!!!

GribbleGrunger4147d ago

Unfortunately my curiosity overpowered my resolve and I've seen every video so far, so I don't think anyone could spoil it for me. I will of course ignore the clickers when the game releases.

ZoyosJD4147d ago

What nuke means is there are people who are spoiling the ending to the game as the names of the cut scenes/chapters/places in the game were listed in the data for the demo.

Trust me, there is more info than you want to know.

Just be wary.

dasbeer884147d ago

But my question is this: Will this multiplayer be dynamic?

3-4-54146d ago

We really are in need of a good New Multiplayer gaming experience.

I grew up on multiplayer games mostly NOT being shooters.

There is a whole generation that doesn't even comprehend multiplayer games beyond Military FPS games.

GribbleGrunger4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

That is quite a grandiose claim! This is ND though ... Do they deliver? They've never let me down yet.

Prcko4147d ago

They always deliver :)
no worries

Walker4147d ago (Edited 4147d ago )

Except Uncharted 3 !

grailly4147d ago

risky statement to make on this site @Walker ;)

I woudln't say UC3 was bad, but it was no UC2. I have full confidence that the last of us is at least great, after all the UC2 team is on it.

on topic: I hope this means that they are making something different qith the multiplayer, not just deathmatch.

Salooh4147d ago

@Walker
I still play uncharted 3 multiplayer. It's great. It's better then playing call of duty. I already finished everything in battlefield3. But U3 mp still makes me excited for some reason. Not a lot of games make me like this...

FamilyGuy4147d ago

What a statement, the confidence makes me very optimistic even though I haven't seen anything from the multiplayer aspect of this game yet.

DigitalRaptor4147d ago

I'm more excited for this than I was for Uncharted 2.

What excites me the most is the way in which Naughty Dog has made such subtle and tasteful design choices, so things aren't overblown like in Uncharted.

This way, although things escalate and there will lots of action, nothing is filler and everything has substance.

Can't wait to explore the beautiful post-pandemic world, toy with amazing AI, meet characters who you may or may not be able to trust, and experience the vitally emotional story.

andibandit4146d ago

well,we will have too see, no doubt they struck gold with uncharted, but when I look at the rest of the games they've made, none of them really appeal to me.

Worried they are taking the safe route and doing a Copy Paste of Uncharted

DigitalRaptor4146d ago (Edited 4146d ago )

Don't talk nonsense.

Any one who's watched every trailer, every gameplay video, every dev diary, read every article, preview, interview, and heard every developer statement is well aware that this game is very, very far removed from Uncharted and not playing it safe in any respect.

Gazondaily4147d ago

Lol wtf? That doesn't make any sense.

Snookies124147d ago

He wants to have a baby with the greatness?

ltachiUchiha4146d ago

I have no doubt in my mind that even though the single player will be an amazing experience, I just had this feeling that the multiplayer aspect was going to catch us by surprise by how awesome it will be. I honestly think it was the main reason naughty dog delayed the game. Cant wait to get blown away.

spiderman 2 $40 from $70 so it's priced right now as a expansion pack like MM.,

andy8553d ago

Pretty decent expansion pack then saying i got 30-40 hours out if it.

just_looken53d ago

I can get 30hours out of a job outside does not mean it was good.

But i know no matter what i post or prove people love there nerfed spiderman or playing as a blind person for 5 hours then mary jane shehulk for another 12hours.

I am so glad today's "gamer" was not around for the ps3/360 era these new gamers are way to easy to please and have killed gaming.

andy8553d ago

It was good though. Are you actually saying it wasn't a good game? And blind? The person you play as was deaf and it was 10 mins not 5 hours. Doesn't seem like you've even played it by that comment. And MJ was...30 mins at most? Not sure how you get 40 mins into 17 hours exactly

CobraKai53d ago

@just_looken

I’ve been playing since the Sega Master System. I love Spiderman 2. There’s too much going for it to be a simple expansion pack. I felt Miles Morales could fall into the expansion pack range.

If you didn’t like it, it’s fine. That’s what’s great about opinions, there are no wrong ones, just different ones.

StormSnooper52d ago

You guys have to understand, they don’t have anything even close to it on his preferred system. There is a whole psychology behind his comment.

lol I was in the ps3/360 era and spider man 2 would of been a massive hit still.

Please don’t try to represent us gamers from that time. You are not a good example, always complaining and being negative lol.

CobraKai53d ago

@just
I mean, it’s New York. You can’t exactly change the map.

It sounds like you’re hard to please vs gamers being easy to please. You mentioned great games. Games whose sequels had very similar gameplay with each other with very minimal changes or upgrades.

Im with pwnmaster. Don’t speak for us. It sounds like probably only started gaming from PS360 era.

Rebel_Scum53d ago

Peter Parker lives in New York, where else do you expect the map to be?

Using the same map/location is not a problem.

On topic: In my region the base game is $80. Still not low enough for me to dive in. Not that Im in a rush. Havent even finished the 1st one’s dlc yet.

just_looken53d ago

The map still has asset's buildings the the first game its like madden yeah same stadium but can you change that madden 14 logo?

Not to mention they never added shield basses basically unique interiors you can explore off missions or add in jersey.

pwnmaster300053d ago

Sony pony??
Are you a child? Lmao

Just stop man. It’s embarrassing.
We can like games and not be a fanboy.
Gaming shouldn’t be taken this serious. Relax lol

just_looken53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

"lol I was in the ps3/360 era and spider man 2 would of been a massive hit still.

Please don’t try to represent us gamers from that time. You are not a good example, always complaining and being negative lol. "

You come at me calling me a bad example talking like this game is gods gift to us and on any sony article you defend them no matter what.

But now i am a child? what because i used logic again this site you throw facts at people they cry to the admins to get me off here again or play the victim card.

pwnmaster300053d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Lmao gods gift to us what. I said it would have been a massive hit not a perfect game. It’s a good game get over it.

And this is why I said what I said.
“ But i know no matter what i post or prove people love there nerfed spiderman or playing as a blind person for 5 hours then mary jane shehulk for another 12hours.”

And you’re still proving me right. God forbid people like a certain game.
And BS about me on every sony article defending them. I like games and praised every games I

“ But now i am a child? what because i used logic again this site you throw facts at people they cry to the admins to get me off here again or play the victim card.”

Your opinions are not facts and the fact you think they are is sad. Step off video games for awhile.

just_looken53d ago

Na its fine you go ahead belive 200 million dollars makes sense for 1 game when 80 created a trilogy on 360.

I live without blinders unlike others.

pwnmaster300053d ago (Edited 53d ago )

“I live without blinders unlike others.“
🤣😂🤣 thanks for the laugh. Have a good night brother. Fight that good fight your fighting.

I know he has a celebrity like status but unless he's announcing his game soon idc what he has to say from this point on.

We need announcement something from him.

Crows90109d ago

The dude is a nobody. He's also wrong. Naughty dog is the uncharted and Jak daxter studio.

They only made one universally praised last of us game. They're not know as "the last of us studio" but they are currently known as the "remake" studio.

Lightning77109d ago

I like his games tbh I'm just more upset at the fact that he's been talking and talking and not showing anything. I'm an actual fan of his work, don't cars if that's that's a popular take or not.

If he has nothing to show or talk about. I don't care about his interviews, his red carpet appearances or what's next for last Of Us 2 TV, leave that to Hollywood. You don't see SP, Bend, or any other studio doing what he's doing. They're remaining quiet and focused as most PS studios do. He should do the same. The next thing I wanna hear him say is "now heres our game" we know that probably won't be for another year or so, so he needs to remain silent and stay out of the limelight for awhile.

AsunaYuukiTheFlash109d ago

You are wrong. LOU2 won a lot of GOTY and was highly rated. It's okay to dislike the game but saying that ND just made one critical acclaimed LOU game is just hating at this point.

rippermcrip109d ago

Kind of a weird interview. No substance, hardly any questions. It's almost like they forgot to post the whole thing or something.

neomahi109d ago

Oh brother...... It's like a balloon filling with helium. He's got nothing new to say. Naughty Dog went from being a studio of numerous developers to being about him and what HE does. Bruce Straley was the co-creator of The Last of Us, and he left--I think for the same reason Christophe Balestra left and since then, Naughty Dog haven't been the same. PlayStation is incredibly woke, as all businesses seem to be these days, ignorant to what's really going on sacrificing the greater for peanuts, but I think they left because of the uprising political atmosphere. They knew there was nothing they could do about it and an attempt to try and combat it, in today's society would end them up in legal trouble so, they just left, what else can you do when the opposition behaves like a child, screams and yells louder than you want to in raged fits, and will throw lawsuits at you at whatever chance they can, but you don't play that way, so they left. And Naughty Dog hasn't been the same since.

Naughty Dog was huge at one time! They were the underdog that became the top dog but, the direction it's fine, just watch and wait. It's ego, and Druckmanns ego of thinking they're untouchable and can just coast along, will drop them rock bottom, in due time, they could see the same fate as Xbox's teams met. Fans will turn on Naughty Dog because A) Naughty Dog aren't producing, they're not what they once were.
B) Gamers ARE growing tired of the woke culture overtaking their lifetime hobby. They're just more silent about it, it's the quiet cool

anast109d ago

Non of this makes sense. I would like to think you didn't spend too much time writing it.

Crows90109d ago

I hope you didn't spend much time reading..it...cuz obviously you didnt understand it. But that's okay. There's many other comments to read...

MIDGETonSTILTS17109d ago

You project your own views on the world, and that is a mistake.

Crows90109d ago

Um...so you project someone else view on the world? What are you talking about?! We all project our view on the world lol...smh

anast109d ago

It's called perspective. I understand that. But I don't understand the poster.

smashman98109d ago

you know it's not his fault that people are interested in what he says, right?

Also, Naughty Dog is bigger than ever.

Crows90109d ago

Smaller....where's their last big game? Yeah...I remember when they were actually releasing heavy hitters.

smashman98108d ago

@Crows90 It was in 2020 and despite what a vocal minority says it was critically acclaimed and the 2020 game of the year. Not only that but The Last of Us is also a critically acclaimed television series and PlayStation's most successful foray into Film and TV yet.

So yes, Naughty Dog is bigger than ever, and just because you don't vibe with them or whatever does not change that fact.

anast109d ago

He's a solid theatre arts person, but he's not a philosopher. Being good at one thing doesn't mean he's Descartes.

DarXyde109d ago

I believe that philosophers are more principled than Druckmann, to be honest. It's fascinating that The Last of Us Part II was literally inspired by the Israel-Palestine conflict and was a needed commentary on humanity and ending the cycle of violence, only to have some questionable commentary after 7 October.

I don't hate the guy as some others seem to. He's been a big part of some great games, but I'll never understand the obsession with hanging on all of his statements.

Chard109d ago (Edited 109d ago )

That's a good point in relation to 7 Oct - a far more important issue where valid criticisms could have been made of this guy, but most here seem thoroughly distracted by trivial issues

anast109d ago

@DarXyde

Like all artists he has a signature. People that have an agenda will try to look for that signature and use it. This is why a lot of "journalist/game influencers" hang on every word. Most of us just enjoy his work and get hyped when he mentions something about a possible new game.

@Chard
"a far more important issue where valid criticisms could have been made of this guy"

Which is?

MIDGETonSTILTS17109d ago

Sony should try and stay radio silence outside of hard reveals.

It’s painful to wait for any info at all, but it’s less painful than skimming an interview that avoids all details whatsoever.

Commit to radio silence, Sony. You can afford to leverage the trust in gaming output that you’ve cultivated.

anast109d ago

That wouldn't be a smart decision. There must be a constant stream of connection in today's world.

MIDGETonSTILTS17106d ago

When a constant stream of connection delays a game 1-2 years, and said games take 5 years to make anyways…. Sony fans are better off trusting Sony to deliver than expecting frequent confirmation.
