People believe it may be a global version or port of Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai
Total shipments of the Hatsune Mike series have surpassed 2.5 million units in Japan as of July 2, SEGA announced today.
Of course they have... just look at that picture.

Considering that this number is the sum of sales of eight games, for me it's a little underwhelming. The way SEGA promotes Hatsune Miku's games in Japan (I even bought the one for Vita when I went there because of the heavy marketing - and I don't even like Hatsune Miku) I thought they were more popular.

Siliconera: Sega’s latest Vocaloid game, Hatsune Miku and Future Stars: Project Mirai, was released on the Nintendo 3DS last week. In its first week on store shelves, Project Mirai sold close to 87,000 copies. Japanese sales tracker, Media-Create, report that this is 70.73% of all copies that were shipped to stores.
I was about to import Miku for my Vita. Hm..
