Defiance Review | The Game Scouts

Jeff Ellis: When I was asked to play through Trion Worlds’s MMORPG...TPS, Defiance, I was admittedly skeptical. The game was developed side-by-side with a SyFy original series of the same name. I have never been a fan of the misspelled channel or anything that it has put out and am not afraid to admit that I went into my playthrough of Defiance with a negative bias and a desire to scoff at everything the game did wrong. Perhaps not so surprisingly for some of you, the game is actually loads of fun and forced me to swallow my sci-fi elitism more times than I care to admit.

The gameplay and value should be higher in my opinion, ime a massive fan of this game and its funny how positive reviews are now finding there way through now people have spent a bit more time with the game.I agree with the sound they could of worked a bit harder on that one.I do believe trion are listening to gamers as problems are being sorted things will improve all the time.

cleft54445d ago

I love this game too. It's a great game, that only wants to be a fun game not some moral lesson.

cleft54445d ago

It's great how whenever someone writes a review for this game, people who actually play it for more than 10 hours step in and say how good the game is to play.

With that said, I love game and it's definitely a 8 or 9 to me.

InMyOpinion4445d ago

I'm at EGO level 500 and I'd give it a solid 9/10 as well. Very close to a 10 actually.

Heisenburger4445d ago

Lol yeah. I actually have to resist the urge to comment on most of these. I don't want to be seen as someone who is desperately trying to convince people.

*looks around*

I HAVE BEEN HAVING A BLAST WITH THIS GAME! There..... I said it.

;)

Question, if I may, for you people who actually likes it: do you guys like it for pvp or coop pve? I only ask cause the thing I like the most is pve, and I've read a lot of complaints from reviers about pve getting really boring really fast due to the lack in variation.
Pve is the whole selling point for me, so, is it good from that aspect?

Heisenburger4445d ago

I absolutely purchased this game for co-op pve. I haven't even gotten around to trying competitive.

Idk. Almost every game is repetitive technically. If you have a friend(with a headset) to roll with and what you've seen looks good, then go for it.

I really don't understand all of these reviewers who have been playing an MMO by themselves.

Though actually I quite enjoy playing solo. But co-op is where it's at though.

InMyOpinion4445d ago

I've only tried PVP once, so definitely PVE.

The story missions can get kind of repetitive in the beginning, but there are so many other things to do once you unlock some 4-player co-op maps etc. Sometimes I just roam around freely and jump in to help people with ongoing missions.

Then there's side missions, races, contracts, goals, rampages, hotshot challenges and tons of other stuff to be done.

The short answer - I've only played PVE (for around 40 hours or so) and I'm far from bored yet. :)

cleft54445d ago

I love the pve stuff. People are getting bored because they play the game like crazy doing the main quest, which isn't short, in days.

I find this game to be very chill and full to mess around in pve wise. Than you can easily switch over to co-op 4 players raids, regardless of whether or not you have people with you. Or you can jump into some massive pvp. All of that at the touch of a button.

To add to this, there is a massive amount of side quests and challenges to do. I love this game and best of all, no monthly fee.

MysticStrummer4445d ago (Edited 4445d ago )

I bought it for PvE and I love it. Main missions, episode missions, side missions, rampages, hot shots, time trials, random events... There's so much to do with PvE I've barely spent any time with PvP so far.

I had a good time with the original Defiance years back, honestly.

Silly gameAr1570d ago

Me too. I remember putting a lot of hours into it before it went free to play. After, it went f2p, I didn't play it near as much, but it makes me nostalgic.

darthv721570d ago

I liked the show and picked up a sealed collectors edition of the 360 game for $5 at a thrift store a couple years ago.

isarai1570d ago

It had a good run honestly, way better than it had any business being, especially for it to be part of a tv series

boing11570d ago

Yeah, I'm surprised it went for so long too. Tried the game but didn't click for me. I liked the TV series, though.

isarai1570d ago

I gave it about a dozen hours, was fun even tho MMOs aren't my thing. But to even keep me around that long is impressive lol

psynetik1231570d ago

Paid $11 for this POS way back and I still felt ripped off

Usually pro has the higher or more stable fps. Hopefully that trend doesn’t happen again this game.

thrust2596d ago

Xbox X a lot more powerful allways the better 3rd party games, The truth hurts 👍

bluefox7552596d ago

@thrust Yeah, the newer, more expensive hardware seems to play games a little better. Shocking, right? Personally, I like 60fps on most games, so I go for the best version, on PC, not X.

RobLoPR2596d ago

@bluefox... so PC is cheaper than Xbox One X?

rdgneoz32596d ago

"allways the better 3rd party games"

Because it has no good first party games since they all get delayed or canned?

Realms2596d ago

@ thrust

No the truth is that a good PC runs circles around the X but some of you constantly try to make it seem like the X is better than PC wrong.

@ RobLoPR

You gotta love the goal posting the argument isn't about price point the argument is where you can get the best performance and the answer is PC. MS fanboys love taunting the power card the only problem is that a good PC can and always will outperform consoles.

iplay1up22596d ago

That is not true. Time and time again the X has been the best platform for 3rd party games. Usually FPS on the X are higher too. Just look at Assassins Creed Origins X compared to Pro Digital Foundry has.

Next Gen it wont matter. I just don't know what Sony and Microsoft are planning for next gen. This is the first MAJOR mid gen upgrade for a console. I just paid $499 for Xbox One X, and Pro is $399. If next gen starts in 2019. What kind of power will the consoles have? What price?BTW, not only does the X have more power than pro, but also a 4K BluRay player. Which Pro doesn't have. That is what makes the X $100 more than pro.

Oh we're talking hardware, because I was going to list some other differences.

nowitzki20042596d ago

I seen an article in gameinformer that MS will be releasing an Xbox One F. $899 with 8% increase over Xbox One X. First time I seen or heard anything about it. Is it true or was it a joke?

AnubisG2596d ago

Never heard of that. Most likely a joke.

nowitzki20042596d ago (Edited 2596d ago )

I didnt have time to read through it, but I really wouldnt be surprised so did not know how to take it lol.

I think its May 2018 issue.. Spiderman on cover.

slavish02596d ago

this is a last gen game it should be 4k60

PS3_Noob2596d ago (Edited 2596d ago )

If X could do 60fps compared to Pro 30fps may be it would matter more. Otherwise both can do well over 1080P which is more than enough. Games is what matters most.
