Microsoft made "no real capitalization" of its one-year head start over PS3, and failed to "reach beyond the core first person shooter player", SCEA's Scott Steinberg has said.

I don't think the Sony chap said that the 360's average user would only buy FPS games, what I think he said was the 360's average user was from the 'core first person shooter player' demographic.

Thus, of course, other games will sell. However, according to him (and I'm not saying that I agree here), the people buying those games primarily prefer 1st-person shooters, and these people are not historically Sony's primary target audience (although, I assume, they want to attract them, too), especially since many emigrated to Xbox1 anyway. Thus, the 360 isn't attracting a new user base, it is just expanding its existing base, but that doesn't mean only 1st-person shooters will sell on the machine. Does that make sense?

360 does have alot of good games, but most of those games are FPS. and i prefer TPS. so to me, its nice that Bioshock, Orange Box, and Halo got great scores, but it means absolutely nothing when i consider buying another 360 because i probably wouldn't get those games anyway.

now that doesn't mean when KZ2 and Resistance 2 come out i won't try them. but they aren't my most anticipated games for the year. i'm looking forward to MGS4, SOCOM, Tekken, Motorstorm and LBP....next year God of War 3, FFXIII, and Twisted Metal......... none of these game are alike, variety is key to me.

First of all, its closer to 11 million than 8(sold NOT shipped). I do agree with you though, Sony has been a bit too ambitious with the ps3. "People will work harder to pay for a ps3" "people will buy it even without games" and ESPECIALLY their trojan horse tactics.but it is gaining a serious amount of momentum. With blu-ray, huge price reduction in component costs, and an unbelievable 2008 lineup, it looks really good right now.

The ps3's eyetoy, home, singstar, Little Big Planet, Ratchet, possibly Afrika go for the more main stream consumers. The 360 needs to get bigger casual games... viva pinata, Katamari and Banjo Kazooie are a good start, but its true that they haven't expanded into kiddy or casual audiences quite as much. While the ps3 desperately needs a price drop before they can get to the point the ps2 was at, the xbox needs games besides gears, halo spinoffs and the like. Maybe I haven't seen some of the new stuff coming, but I think that's sony's main point here.

I have to admit - almost every game I own or rented for the Xbox360 was a FPS. (other than the numerous LIVE Arcade games I own)

Lets start from the beginning- Perfect Dark Zero, Condemned, Quake 4, Prey, R6:V, BioShock, Halo3 (biggest waste of money yet), CoD4, and soon to be R6:V2. I did play a few non FPS games like Kameo and Dead Rising. But mostly FPS games.

Sony needs to get the games cracking because it has about 7 unique games from what the ps3 offers. Most of those are SHOOTERS. The best game of the ps3 launch was a FPS( sounds like xbox1 to me) It's best games of next year is a Shooter, a racer and two FPS. Sounds just like what MS offered last year right?

While MS is offering, 2 rpgs, an action adventure game, and a shooter this year? If sony is so concerned why is i following MS's every move? Where is he variety. What games are you talking about? Ninja Gaiden 2? Okay, so? What other RPG are you talking about besides Fallout 3? Lost Oddessy? Infinte Undiscovery? You do realize that the last two jrpgs on the 360 haven't done too well, right? And Fallout 3 is not a port. BEthesda is making the versions simultaneously. And even if it was a port, it means it will be better on the PS3, just like Oblivion. And out of all those games, I am willing to bet more people are more interested in Gears 2 than any other game coming for the 360 this year.

I can think of eight rpgs for the ps3 off the top of my head, FF:LR, Mist of Chaos, Valkyrie Chronicles, the chopin game, white knight chronicles, fallout 3, disgaea 3. That's quite a few more than two.

FPS are becoming a big part of the industry, sure, but killzone, Gears, Resistance 2, COD5 will very likely be buried under huge games from various other genres such as Little Big Planet, Super Smash Brothers, Too Human, MGS, Grand Turismo, Mario Kart, Banjo Kazoie, Grand Theft Auto and the like. Okay, well, maybe those FPS games will still sell millions, but they may not be shoe-in GOTY contenders like last year.

To be honest msoft has put in way more effort to reach beyond the shooter demographic than sony has but to be frank msoft wasted their head start. .....before you call people out (and I know you've been around this site long enough to of read the predictions of analysts in stories posted over the last 4 months), so its you that is lying and trying to put the blame on PS3 supporters, not the other way around.

Below are just some links to analysts predictions, that took me all of like 30 seconds to find in google, only 3 links supplied, but google showed a lot more, and if you look in past N4G stories, you'll find a few more of these forecasts from various analysts and software developers.

With worldwide sales of the PS3 now selling more than the 360 since Nov of last year, it seems at present that the tide is slowly turning Sony's way and these forecasts could well be coming true.

Gamers think about it, if you exclude FPS titles that's being published by third parties; that would give the PS3 Resistance,Killzone and the 360 Gears of War. Granted we don't know what will be announced in the future but this is what is known as of now. Both Consoles for 08 as it stands for right now are going to be relying on other game genres more heavily. So to say one or the other is not moving past the shooter gamer is a bit of cutting the argument to ones favor. 360 has some steller RPG's coming up and has released some stellar RPG's last year. JRPG support is growing with annoucement of a Tales game on a MS console. Sony has some stellar games in other genre as well like the Agency and LBP. Think about it like this Rock Band is about to approach a million sold on the 360 and it's a game built for a casual audience with a hardcore price tag. I think both console are going to do well going forward and MS has reached beyond the shooter market by successfully gaining RPGs on their system which is something that was just a drop in a bucket on the original xbox. If we can just stop the battle for a moment we can see that both sides has a lot to offer all gamers.

The xbox 360 has good non shooter rated games and I won't try to spin away from that, but those aren't selling or expanding to the casual audience and people aren't buying 360s for those games. Also the argument that Sony being hyprocrits by releasing Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 is out of context because if there was one weaker genre on Playstation it would be the FPS genre, so stop comparing apples and oranges. We will see if the 2008 360 lineup will sell because all they have is mostly single player non shooter games. I challange Microsoft to expand there audience with there 2008 lineup. Until X360 sells more than Xbox did, then really they haven't taken anyone yet. Alpha even if we take what you said as fact (which online we all know that's a stupid thing to do), and we give you 20 friends, that makes 21 people who supposedly converted versus the 125+ million PS2 users, and whether you want to admit it or not the hardware issue in the beginning for X360 (RROD) probably converted some consumers to PS3. 'Ultimate' means last. 'Encore' means, loosely, a repeat of something that went before. So if 2008 is the ultimate encore year for the 360, that means it won't be coming back for any more successes, such as it had in 2007, ever again. 2008 will be the last, the ultimate, success, so to speak.

The 360 will continue to sell more software than the PS3 and Wii. The PS3 will probably sell more hardware than the 360 by the end of 2009. It will not matter though.

Who sells the most hardware alone is not as important as the software to hardware ratio.

The Ps3 could sell 50 million with a software ratio of 3. Meaning software sales of 150 million.
The 360 could sell 32 million with a software ratio of 7. Meaning software sales of 224 million.

Which is the greater success?

Games sell better on 360.
Games cost less to make on 360.
Games take less time to make for 360.

You do realise that MS only extended thier warranty because they where forced too. many people still had to buy a new 360 simply because MS brought thier warranty extension in way too late. if any other electronics giant had such failure rates it would have been forced to recall. i would like to know how much MS payed to not have to do this. also as far as we all know failure rate is at 16% still (new hardware, new motherboards). still not something for MS to brag about and certainly not as you put it 'a problem solved'. I was an original xbox owner and the only FPS that I played were Halo 1 & 2. The games that sucked me in were Prince of Persia (looked & played WAY better than the PS2 version), KOTOR 1 & 2, NBA Live 2005, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Morrowind, Ninja Gaiden... no FPS's... I'm not a huge FPS guy and what got me to buy an original xbox were all the other genre's that complemented my PS2 that I had since launch. In fact once I got it I didn't play my PS2 until FF12 came out.

It's the same reason I have a 360 and PS3. I love all the variety I have w/ both. What it comes down to is that if you truly want variety you're gonna have to get both consoles.

In Score and sales, the top Ps3 exclusive is TIED w/ a remake of an Xbox 1 game, that's how amazing your line-up is. The xbox 360 is a great machine but it isn't great enough to consider a big improvement over the PS3. Also, it is possible that some devs will unlock the secrets of the Cell CPU and eventually the PS3 could leap the Xbox 360. That said since the Xbox 360 didn't have the power to totally trump the PS3, there was no need for PS2 owners to switch. Not only that, but because of the horrible failure rate of the xbox 360 any of those PS2 owners MS turned were lost.

Somebody said Sony didn't take into consideration those PS2 owners who switched sides. Well, how many xbox 360 owners were ticked off at the red ring of death and the horrible customer service that was presented by MS?

Fact is, Microsoft isn't going to topple the Playstation juggernaut that is with one machine unless that machine is butt loads better (which xbox 360 isn't). Sony could lose half their PS2 fan base and still sell more PS3 machines than the original xbox and Gamecube combine.

Sony isn't going to lose to nobody this time around and Microsoft should have recognized that. If anybody is hurting Microsoft is Nintendo's Wii but Microsoft doesn't consider them a threat which you can tell by the supporting comments they have made in the past (many times last year Microsoft would say things like you can buy a Wii and a Xbox 360 for the price of a Playstation). Little things like that add up and before you know it you are struggling to stay out of third place. I am not saying they are in third place, I'm just saying they should not think like they are going to totally trounce Sony with one equal console which sometimes is better and sometimes is worse.

Microsoft failed to hit the real target that was Nintendo. Now Microsoft is battling two fronts one on the low end and the other on the high end. Microsoft should have squashed Nintendo first then when Nintendo was down an out catch Sony on the next console (xbox whatever). Now Microsoft is facing a potential threat from Sony and has no back door to go the casual route because they threw most of their ammo against Sony and Nintendo is cleaning up the back end.

Microsoft needs to back off of Sony and just concentrate on staying in second place and just let first place come to them naturally instead of forcing it.

Ever wonder why IBM and Sony made all those technological statements about the Cell and Shrink Blue laser size as well as other components. Was it to educate the consumer, the average consumer, who could care less about the techno babel, No. It was a quiet respectful warning to Microsoft saying - hey Microsoft, call of the Hound dogs there is room for both of us here. If you don't look here at all the cost saving components we "could put into the PS3". Keep pushing us into a price war and we can and will play.

Microsoft should just take the subtle hint and stop trying to make Sony out to be the bad guy and just make money. Again Sony isn't worried about losing customers they got so many Playstation owners that they are only worried about keeping them which I believe they are doing pretty good. Perfect, no, but then nobody is perfect and Sony knows that there will be casualties of war (in this case defecting console owners).

It will be inevitable that Sony can and will be able to keep their fan base. Remember that Sony still has the technology to put PS2 hardware back in the PS3 when the PS3 components drop enough to allow it. This of course would be a last resort since Sony does have software emulation and will probably be their goal to get as close to 100% as possible but if not the hardware version is still there. Sony could put hardware PS2 components back in the PS3 in a year or two when the PS3 drops price and then millions of PS2 fans would have no reason not to switch.

Microsoft will probably come out with a new console 2009 - 2010 and it will have to totally trounce the PS3 and also needs to be powerful enough to take on the PS4 as well. This will make the machine expensive and Microsoft will have to sell the machine at a loss. Now Microsoft is in Sony's shoes where Sony can play the price war game but Microsoft can't. PS3 could go for as low as $150 by 2010 - 2011 which is their 4 and 5 year mark for the PS3 and a year or two after Microsoft's new console.

The one person that doesn't have as much ammo as Sony that has everything to gain from an Xbox 360 topple is Nintendo. They are an easier target and don't have a huge loyal fan base in the Console market. They convincingly sold a machine to consumers that is no more powerful than an original xbox for twice as much as the original xbox was worth at that time. Microsoft isn't losing gamers to Sony because Sony isn't targeting Microsoft's consumers hence the PSN network and LBP which have games targeting at the "casual" market, no, they are losing players to Nintendo (so is Sony but only Sony seems to recognize this). Instead Microsoft keeps badgering Sony and Sony will always have an answer for them.

In this instance, Sony is correctly pointing out Microsoft's deficiencies and notice they never mention the hardware. They didn't rip on the Hardware but Microsoft's marketing strategies. Even though Microsoft did manage to put out a Next Gen title within one year there was only one, Gears of War, that had superiority over games offered on Sony's side and it was FPS in third person view. No real RPGs or Next Gen G rated titles that truly target the Family or Everyone category. Microsoft also had a very short run of decent casual games for a while but Nintendo AND even Sony stole that thunder pretty quick and has sucked ever since.

MS just needs to stick to bringing out the better quality games and open more Genre than just FPS no matter what perspective they are in - they are still FPSs.

MS seems to have a strategy that focus mainly on western countries. What MS don't understand is that it's a very very big and diverse gaming market out there. Not all gamers like online as alot of gamers don't have the ISP to do so. All this talk about live,achievement will not register with gamers that don't have the ISP which i suspect is quite a big portion of gamers.
Sony from the outset of the PS1 focused on all gamers from different regions. Its why they have 3 main divisions in the 3 big regions where they could focus on their local market as well as worldwide. This above all else is still PS biggest strength.PS provides something for everyone. To be fair though. MS really did try hard to diversify their gaming lineup this gen and only get better for them when next gen comes up because next time. They will have a good collection of proven franchise from this gen.

*LOGICALLY, it's a rather understandable assumption to believe that, until the X Box 360 sells to the remaining 4 million X Box fans, they *AREN'T really making significant headway into tapping into Sony or Nintendo's markets.

TRUTH: the Playstation 2 has sold 120 million + units (ie, 125 million Playstation 2 fans were made, with 110 million of them being original Plasytation fans that eventually carried over. the extra 10 million are *NEW FANS)

TRUTH: the Playstation 3 has sold, roughly 10 million units to date.

LOGICALLY, it's not unreasonable to assume that there are *STILL 110 million or so Playstation 2 fans that are simply *WAITING for more games to hit before they move onto a Playstation 3.

i mean, if the X Box 360, which has great games like Crackdown, Halo 3, Gears of War, Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc haven't persuaded those 110 million remaining Playstation 2 owners to buy a 360 *WHAT WILL? it obviously hasn't hit the system yet, or you'd be seeing quite a mass exodus of Playstation 2 owners to the 360.

we *AREN'T seeing that, however. consumers are *WAITING. Playstation 2 fans are *WAITING. what are they waiting for?

i know it's hard to understand, or even grasp, that Sony has a *LOT of strong first party franchises. everybody wants to throw Nintendo praises for Mario, Metroid, and Zelda, deservedly so, but they tend to dismiss the Sony franchises, despite how successful they are;

each of the series i've mentioned have devoted fanbases, and have achieved both critical, *AND commercial acclaim and success.

my point isn't that Sony is better than MS, or even Nintendo, simply that it's not illogical to think that, despite the killer software lineup of the 360 last year, the *MAJORITY of Playstation gamers still weren't swayed to the 360.

it makes *PERFECT sense that those Playstation 2 fans haven't bought into PS3's yet, not a single one of their beloved franchises have made a debut on the Playstation 3 yet. fortunately, most of those franchises are making their PS3 appearances in 2008 and 2009, as well as a bunch of intriguing new IPS from established developers (Infamous, from the Sly Cooper devs, Sucker Punch, for example).

it'll be interesting to see how the Playstation 2 fanbase reacts to the quality game releases hitting the PS3 this year.

after all, price isn't as big of a deterrent as it was a year ago (you can't say that $400 is too much for a PS3, especially when many paid that much for a 360. it's hypocritical if they do), and software isn't much of a problem either, as there are plenty of quality games out, and coming, and suiting a wide variety of genres and tastes.

with Blu Ray being the victor also, many PS2 fans who were worried about buying into a Playstation 3 that may have been equipped with a "dead" format don't have that worry holding them back anymore. Blu Ray *WON. it's now safe to invest in a Playstation 3, even if you *DIDN'T want a Blu Ray player. at $400, you are practically getting a Blu Ray player for *FREE (remember, there is built in Wi Fi on the $400 PS3 also, and the X Box 360 Premium is $350, and does *NOT come with an HD drive built in, *OR built in Wi Fi; it's an extra that costs additional money).

the Sony guy isn't really saying anything so ridiculous that it's not out of the realm of possibility. the top games on the 360 are, not so surprising, of the shooter variety (Gears of War, Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, and Call of Duty 4). it's kind of inarguable.

that's not to say that the other genres aren't represented, just that they aren't getting the attention of many 360 owners in the way that shooters are (i mean, look at sales of great 360 RPGs like Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, and even Lost Odyssey, in comparison to the shooters i mentioned above. the RPGs are successful for the most part, but even *CLOSE to the way the shooters are).

Microsoft isn't to blame for this, as they are *TRYING to widen their library of games, but many of their fanbase just *AREN'T biting (for another example, look at Viva Pinata's sales).

the PS3 is still building it's fanbase from PS2 owners. the 360 is almost *DONE converting the original X Boxes fanbase, and Microsoft seriously needs to start looking into ways to broaden their appeal.

Sony already has *PLENTY of franchises that branch out and appeal to a wider demographic than the "hardcore," and have been doing that since the PS2 days. it's the benefit of not abandoning your hardware so early, and giving it a chance to breathe and establish some sort of relationship with the consumer.

Eye Toy games, Singstar, Buzz, the Ratchet, Sly, and Jak games, are just a few Sony owned IPs that appeal to a wide range of gamers outside of the typical "hardcore" bunch. those games have been around for *YEARS.

contrasted with Microsoft, who are now in a difficult position, and must scramble to compete with not only Sony's casual gamer appeal, but in particular *NINTENDO'S casual gamer appeal, as the Wii is simply dominating the casual gamer market (until the Wii releases more than just a *NINTENDO game that sells over 3 million, i will view the Wii as a "casual gamer only" console. i love Smash Bros, i love Metroid, and i love Zelda, but outside of those Nintendo franchises, the Wii just doesn't have enough games with "meat" on them like the 360 and PS3. where is the Wii GTAIV? or Mass Effect, or Bioshock, or Metal Gear Solid? Mario and company are great and all, but where are the games made for the *HARDCORE, that aren't just ports of PS2 and Gamecube games? like Playstation 3 fans know, leftovers will only get you so far).

Microsoft is kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place right now;

the Playstation 3 is not only approaching the 360 in price, but in software, and software *QUALITY (ie, COD4, Burnout Paradise, and Devil May Cry 4, to name only three multi-platform games that perform equally, and in some instances *BETTER, on the PS3). not to mention the Playstation 3's advantage of already having established casual game franchises that are simply waiting to make the jump to the PS3, further enticing PS2 owners to choose their box over the 360.

Microsoft needs to up their number of first party studios, and really get to work on broadening their range. it's the only way they won't be relegated to third place in the end. the first year is great, and MS had that no competition head start, but year two showed a *SIGNIFICANT decline in 360 sales (7 million in 2007, compared to 10 million in 2006), while the competitions sales and software output continue to *RISE (ie, in 12 months, the PS3 had reached nearly 10 million units; impressive, for a console that was, and i quote, "too expensive," "had no games," and, "had crappy online").

Its absolutely true though, the only real big ps2 franchises we've seen revived so far are Ratchet, DMC, Armored Core and Dynasty Warriors, tekken as a psp port and the later three weren't that big at all. More will pick up a ps3 when the big hitters start coming in waves.

In this case he's correct. The PS2 has one of the most diverse line-ups of software of all time. There is literally something for eveyone (even if some it is rubbish)! When you look at the 360's line up it has failed to attract the non-hardcore market.

Long before Nintendo was being hailed as he casual market leader, Sony had Singstar and Buzz. Enthusiasts were importing stuff like Disgaea and Katamari long before they were mainstream outside of Japan. There were a huge number of AAA titles in all genres. Mix in the really niche, and quirky stuff and it's easy to that the PS2 had the widest appeal of any console. From day one developers were releasing diverse stuff.

The sheer variety in every genre is amazing.

The problem is that the 360's line-up is still skewed towards the hardcore gamer . And even as they try and broaden the line up there's a certain stigma, or label, attached to the 360 (or maybe the XBox brand) that it's more hardcore.

That reputation hurts Microsoft.

And the thing is... Sony are already showing they are embracing diversity. Look at the Eye of Judgement, and Singstar. Where's the competition from Microsoft? The 360 camera has been out a lot longer, and surely MS have had time to get a developer working on a Singstar rip off.

Both consoles are amazing in my opinion - but for most non-hardcore gamers, or those hardcore gamers with interests outside of FPS games the PS3 is the obvious choice because they will be catered for.

What a strange thing to say. All you have to do is look at the line-ups and compare the genre's.

Its never too late. Most all of FPS's for this year are multi platform the rest are Sony exclusives.

360 a FPS console is old news the 360 is looked at as an RPG console right now actually, could be the reason this dude is saying the complete opisite of whats actually comming up or going on(casuals are actually buying the Wii and its the 360 in reality has the most healthy mix of demographics).

The story isn't insulting FPS'ers or 360 owners, it's saying 360 has failed to draw in crowds other than the FPS players even with their JRPG attempts and other titles (Which everyone appreciates the 360 has) Noone is saying they don't have the games. It's that the current owners are the same FPS fans from last Gen and they're not interested in JRPGS hello blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, both great games for fans of the genre but there aren't that many fans of the genre on the 360 if sales figures are to go on.

Let's see how Ninja Gaiden2 does. The game looks amazing but if NG1 was anything to go on, the sales will be rubbish because Itagaki is too stubborn and arrogant to release the game multiplatform. Sigma did amazing on the PS3 considering it's install base at the time and compared to the original on Xbox. It will sell on the 360 but I can't see it's figures blowing people away because it's not your average 360 owners type of game.

But for Sony who were never that big on FPS'ers to actually have them as some of their best sellers recently shows that they are doing something right.

my favorite type of game is FPS but nija giaden was my favorite xbox game and is the reason I have a 360. I think tha sales will be pretty good. I think they are jealous of the massive success of games like Halo. I wonder what audience they are aiming at with Killzone 2 and Resistance 2? Killzone 2 is one of the most expensive titles ever, and it's as much FPS as it gets.

I'm looking back at articles from when the ps2 launch and how its progression into "THE CONSOLE" of choice mirrors that of the ps3. The DVD technology was just starting to catch on, Dreamcast had been on the market for the year, and when the ps2 launch the games had no real...edge. Over time things quickly began to change and you know the rest of the story.
MS tried to mimick what SONY did with the 360 but failed to realize, IN MY OPINION, that new disc format is what really helped SONy sell the ps2 to the masses. That was until they got...AAA games. Same thing with PS3. I firmly believe that unless MS comes up with a new type of technology that they can incorporate with the 360, then they are going to end up in third place. MS isn't just going to wither away like some of the foolish ones proclaim. However, MS needs a powerful presentation to ensure the tides don't turn or turn as drastically as they have in the past. The real question is can MS wither the storm(SONY)...cause its coming...and its coming strong this year!!!

Sony has always focused on bringing all kinds of games to their console, and it's especially true if you look back at the last generation. I come from a gaming community with 1500 strong members (mainly from the UK) and have to say the majority of us all own a 360 with a small section of PS3 owners.
Our roots started back on the PS2 with Star Wars Battlefront in 2004 with just a handful of people and now have grown into a very large community.
Its so weird how our PS2's got replaced by the white boxes.
Don't think for a second Im an Xbox fanboy the only reasons I dont have a PS3 are:
1) They're really no games that draw me to the PS3
(I was drawn to the 360 because of its RPG's not FPS)
2) The games on the PS3 that do grab my attention are also coming to the 360.

That said I am on my second 360 and was tempted on buying a PS3 but instead of spending my cash on a PS3 (and sorry to say its half hearted PC wannabe features)i just cut out the middle man and spent the almost £500 at the time on doing up my PC so now I feel I have all the games covered I want to play on either my 360 or PC.

MS's fanbase was created around FPS's, mainly halo. a few played the good stuff like KOTOR and fable but most just stuck to shooters, i work at a game store and when a guy comes and is looking for a new gam what does he say? Last gen, I originally held out for the original Xbox due to the fact that it was more powerful, had built in HDD, PC type games (had a crap PC at the time), custom soundtracks, etc.

Sure, I ended up eventually getting a PS2 but then they started getting DREs with the old style PS2 and traded it for a slim. When I finally sold my PS2 with all games/accessories etc, I was on my 4th PS2 because I found keeping the slim models on for too long would cause crap to start locking up. And yet, I've NEVER had an issue with any XBox product.

I'm also from the UK, from London to be exact and I kinda disagree with you there. Yes you and your little gaming community may have once been PS2 owners swayed over to the Xbox 360, but it doesnt mean a majority of everybody else in the UK did. This the truth from my experience, I know many guys that are gamers who have bought PS3's over 360. I know many guys who are sitting on a fence about which console to buy, and most of them seem to be leaning towards buying a PS3. I went to buy a copy of the PS3 version of COD4 and many of the major high street game retailers were totally sold out! Unchartered was also sold out aswell. This was back in December. This was when I realised the PS3 was picking up real steam. So starbuck dont generalise man, you dont know what the gaming industry situation is in every part of the UK.

I'm not saying there is no variety on the 360, of there is. I just dont feel the 360 has a variety of games that are as strong and diverse as the PS3's line-up of games coming up. In my opinion to much of the 360's best games last year were dominated by FPS. On the PS3 I enjoyed one of last years best games - Unchartered, action-adventure. Then I played COD4 (FPS) and I loved it. I just think that the PS3 offers that bit more variety which is why I prefer it. I mean look at this:

To be more cut and dry, Could he be talking about the whole world not just the North American Market. Even tho it is the one that grosses the most revenue sales and such. Look at all the regions not just a particular one, just to be on the fair side.

Since when does the 360 need saving ? Every time I hear 360 is losing or it's going under I just have to laugh at the ignorance of you people. What keeps a gaming console going is games not movies so in that department I think Ms has it's fans covered. The first Fable was a fun game just because it's not full of cutscenes and doesn't take 400 hours to play doesn't mean it was a bad game and I think 360 has a few Rpg's if you do your homework. Let's just face the fact that Sony sucks balls and maybe just maybe we can all get through these difficult times together. By the way Gears isn't 1st person you can say it's like 1st person all you want but in the end it's not so your wrong.

you 4get Socom and it seems to be a trend. Socom is getting no love around these parts. I know more then a handfull of ppl still playing Socom and waiting on the PS3 to get this game.

I have heard talk b4 about sleeper hits and by the current trend Socom might just be that.

It wont be a sleeper for me because its one of the reasons i bought a PS3.

Yea socom on the ps2 was great. It was the first game that got my into online play. I am really looking forward to it. I think EGM is doing an exclusive on it in May.

Just a few games for the 360 which should appeal to alot of different people:

Gears of War 2 - third person shooter (TPS)
Fable 2 - RPG
Too Human - action/hack and slash
Banjo Kazooie 3 - platformer
Alan Wake - action/horror
Halo Wars - RTS

Right there is variety, I was both a PS2, Xbox and Gamecube owner and I bought the 360 and now the PS3, not gonna buy a Wii btw. This is just more PR mudslinging, more to come as Sony gamers day and E3 come closer...

I don't know how anyone can argue against the notion that the 360 is a shooter heavy system. Take one look at the top-rated exclusives (BioShock, Gears, Halo3, Mass Effect, Condemned) and many of the multiplats (OrangeBox, CoD4, R6V, GRAW2, Darkness, FEAR, Jericho, Turok, etc) and even the ones that aren't FPSers have heavy shooter elements to them.

Basically, once you get past the shooters like Halo3, BioShock and Gears, I can get most of the 360's better games on PS3 anyhow, and I personally find a better varitey of exclusives on the PS3. Besides, even if I did want to play nothing but FPSers, the PS3 still has alot to offer with Resistance, OrangeBox, CoD4 and then Resistance2, Killzone2 and Haze on the way.

Yea 2007 was pretty shooter heavy for 360 but 2008 really only has Geow2 as a shooter(multiplats excluded) the rest of its lineup is pretty variant. Kind of like the ps3 last year.

2008 does indeed look like a great year for some refreshing stuff, what with "Home", "LittleBigPlanet", and some new "Eye Toy" applications and such on the PS3 side, and even the 360 taking "Halo" into RTS format and getting some quality JRPGS.

Though I still think the PS3 will continue to outsell the 360 worldwide, its definately going to be a fun year no matter which platform you're supporting. (and those that have both with be in bliss)

And i can tell you this, if sony had launched at the same price as the ps1, it would already outsold the 360. Just on name alone.

Price was the only factor, then as multiplatform games were getting poor scores from poor ports, it didn't help.

But as you've seen lately, thats old news with Multiplatform games being more or less exactly the same on both systems.

Another thing is, alot of ppl don't go online, i know a few kids who own a ps3, and there mums and dads don't let them online with it, why i don't know.

Graphically etc, 360 isn't a bad machine, but i tend to look at it this way now.

Once Home is here, achievements etc, loading a game from anywhere in the home space, you should see some things rfom2 is cooking up for home, its mental.

You'll be pretty surprised when you see motorstorm 2, Alot of dropped jaws i'm guessing.

Yes there are shooters etc on both systems.

But where as sony has final fantasy,gt5,lbp(incredible game)Killzone and yes the daytime maps look amazing. The big games and content is coming, after that, either you'll buy a ps3, whether you have a 360 or not, and ps2 owners will adapt because of the love for games which they've been waiting for, plus, free online, hdmi(if u want it) wireless,hd,blu-ray.
