Horror games have been mysteriously absent from the gaming scene for quite a while. Only once in a while do we get true horror games like Amnesia, the original Dead Space and recent hits like Slender. It seems the indie scene has taken up the role of creating these experiences for us now, seeing as it’s pretty much hopeless for a big name company to restore the horror genre at this point. Franchises like Resident Evil and Dead Space are taking more action-oriented routes and skimping on horror elements.
2013 is absolutely chock full of promising horror games that you should keep your eye on if you’re a fan of the genre. Here’s a complete list of all the horror titles coming out in the next 12 months and what you can expect from them.
The Until Dawn movie has caused some upset because the writers of the original game were not included in the film’s credits.
I think the game writes should be glad... the movie is not that good. Its connection to the game is in name only.
The first game in the PS Plus Essential lineup for the month of May, 2025, has potentially been leaked through the PlayStation Store.
Until Dawn remake, Death Stranding, and a random PS4 game?
Until Dawn was already a PS Plus game! And not even that long ago.
The fact that JUST BECAUSE an Until Dawn movie just released in theaters so SONY trying to push the name is not right for us long time subscribers.
Beware the Slender Man, as the VR port of Slender: The Arrival steps onto Meta Quest, PSVR 2 and PCVR headsets this Spring.
omg so scary
I know there are probably far more out there on different platforms but looking at this list, I think it shows how horror games have silently slipped from the mainstream. Many of the releases are PC and/or 360 (which I assume will be XBL) with only one game on the list being for the PS3.
It tells me many of these games are from indie developers which is good and bad. Good because horror has been kept alive by a new generation of game developers that probably aren't being AS pressured from big publishers to cram in action.
And bad because whereas a few years ago horror was a staple of gaming, it sadly seems to have been replaced by the more action oriented games.
Still, it's great to see many potentiality great releases for this year.
