Gaming Trends Part 2: The State of PC Gaming

Via Ripten:

"Over the past few weeks, I've been noticing quite a few themes that have been making their way through the industry. Throughout last week at GDC, many of these took center stage in a variety of forms. Today, we examine the state of PC Gaming.

Every year a multitude of publications come out proclaiming "PC gaming is dead! All units bail out!" It's all getting to be a little ridiculous."

CS & Starcraft, it's not dying, it's just starting.

PC is in an uncomfortable position right now, but it has a long way to go before it's "dead".

PC gaming isn't dead, that would be silly talk. Just as soon as I can afford my new graphics card, ram, CPU etc I'll be right there arguing the point.

Ok, that was a bit of an exaggeration. I think there will always be a place for PC gaming, as a computer game is simply a different experience to a console game.

After you take digital distribution into account PC sales have never been stronger. It's a multibillion dollar industry and it's continuing to evolve and grow as a platform. I'm pretty sure these signs aren't indicative of a dying platform

While sales may be stronger than ever, it seems that the console market continues to grow at a much faster clip, which ultimately gives the impression that the PC market is dying because its overall percentage shrinks.
