Why the Next Generation of Consoles Won’t Be the Last – Part 2

From the article:

"The explosion of free-to-play gaming seems to indicate, on one level, that more and more gamers are moving to this model for gaming, and that it’s a more profitable model than the traditional ‘cash-up-front’ model that gives you full access to a whole game as soon as you’ve bought it. The question remains, however, of how sustainable this model really is. Ultimately, free-to-play games are, ironically, more expensive than regular games, and sooner or later that will become apparent to most free-to-play gamers. It is at this point that the long-term future of the free-to-play model will become clear."

The only people who believed this were the same wannabe journalists who wrote it.

Megaton4513d ago

Or people capable of reading the current tech landscape.

Or maybe those who realise they arent consoles any more, just locked down PCs :P

They become locked down PCs just brand labeled and have a royalty on every game sold ;-)

Hell even with the current gen the only real console was the Wii.

_LarZen_4513d ago

Just by looking at how many are online playing Black Ops 2 one can see 1 of many reasons why consoles aint going anywhere.

Usually on PC there are about 33.000 players online playing. On X360 there are 600.000....

And that is 1 game.

Do the math ;)

Microsoft Confirms Next-Gen Xbox Consoles, Deal With AMD and Promises Full BC

Microsoft has announced a partnership with AMD to power the next generation of Xbox, including its first-party future Xbox consoles.

darthv723h ago

Me thinks the Xbox 8k will be UDNA based.

Obscure_Observer2h ago

This thing is gonna be *expensive* and extremely powerful!

It might easily break the $1000 price point for a console for the first time ever.

dveio2h ago

I would like to be a fly on the wall during such negotiations.

Aloymetal12m ago

''Next gen will be different''

Obscure_Observer2h ago

Sony confirmed their partnership with AMD for PS6 ages ago.
With Xbox taking time, everybody was hoping they might try something new & different by going Nvidia route but guess they went with the boring AMD route again.

I hope it's a remake of the 1st game. But it's probably just the PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption 2

OtterX13h ago

I hope a PS5 upgrade launches on the same day as announcement & it costs no more than $10. I already bought the Ultimate Edition once, they got good money from me.

I stopped playing completely 2 years ago until they did 60fps. I really didn't expect it would take this long & I didn't want to start completely over on PC.

dmonee2h ago

My wish is that its optimized for current gen machines, with some sort of story expansion. Undead nightmare 2! My 2nd wish is that it just shadow drops on the day of the announcement!.

Lionsguard2h ago

Give me my RDR2 Undead Nightmare already.

I think i made the mistake of giving Mama Murphy too many chems. Because I could never get my settlement past 98% happiness, and it even cost me the Platinum.
