Pocket Gamer: Wide Sky doesn't want to be like anything else. A thread of odd humour runs through its tutorial, its visual style is stunning, and its presentation is some of the best we've seen on the App Store.
But the game underneath it all, the mechanics of play that really matter, are underwhelming at best and broken at worst.
"The hedgehog we all know and love is known as the blue blur. The hedgehog of Wide Sky, however, much prefers flying around in the air than running across the ground and certainly deserves some loving thanks to a recent update." - Mark Isaacson
AppSpy: Wide Sky isn't without the ability to be redeemed, but in its current state the game comes off as mundane at best, and frustratingly counter-intuitive at worst.
TouchGen: Launching Wide Sky for the first time is awesome. The presentation is immediately top notch, all the way from the writing to the visual design. The tutorial is clever and thorough, and you will be anxious to get started playing the actual game. This is destined to be the most fun you will have playing Wide Sky: enjoy it. Once the actual game starts, things go downhill quickly.
