It's sad for people to lose their jobs but Epic Mickey 2 failed real hard

Root4105d ago

Well I do feel sorry for them but they had a second to chance to work on the improvements the first game needed but they just seemed to ignore them and added even more stuff in the sequel when they didn't sort the stuff they put in the first game out

FarCryLover1824105d ago

First one flopped pretty badly too, sales wise. These games might have been good but Disney should have let someone like Warren Spector make their own IP not based on Disney characters. Just my thoughts about it.

badz1494104d ago

EM2 is a design mess! the ideas are there but seems like they don't know how to execute them right!

Phil324105d ago

When only one game flopping (Disney Epic Mickey 2) can make your entire studio close down, you know the industry business model is broken.

Godchild10204105d ago (Edited 4105d ago )

They took a risk by putting it on more platforms, when they should have left it a Nintendo exclusive and brought it to the Wii U as well.

EM2 sold less than the first. I don't think the game came close, combined on all platforms to what the first sold on the Wii.

Phil324105d ago

Yeah, the original on Wii sold a million or so in its first month.

ShaunCameron4105d ago

Indeed. EM (as a Wii exclusive) = 2.84 million sold to date. EM2 (as a multiplatform game) = 1.14 million sold to date.

DOMination-4105d ago

Those numbers are really not that bad. Even the sequel. Much more than i realised.. Enough anyway to keep the studio alive i would have thought.

Godchild10204105d ago

I just seen that the game was released on the Wii U.

Game development is getting expensive. Next gen even more studios will close. Why do you think Sony has so many 1st party Studios. Nintendo is already set with IP's. and microsoft well we know microsoft.

mistajeff4105d ago

Poor Warren, he REALLY wanted those games to work. It's okay buddy, you made Deus Ex. Everything else in your career can be absolute shit and I'd be fine with it, because nothing can undo that masterpiece. I just hope everyone finds work. Thankfully, junction point is in Austin, and there's a TON of development houses in Austin.
