Definitely not the worst game Dante has ever appeared in, by a long shot.

This is probably the best, most objectively well rounded and informative review of DmC I've seen so far, very well done.

In short, DmC is great for casuals and new comers alike but the hardcore fans may be put off by the less challenging gameplay mechanics and a vastly different portrayal of Dante.

Yeah I agree. Good review.

Less challenging if you play on easy. When I booted the game up I started on Nephilim (hard,) and it wasn't too bad. Some of the platforming shit is annoying, but I never really had a problem playing the rest of the game.

After I beat it, I started over on Son of Sparda. Wow, what a difference. The combat is as deep as you want it, and the mechanics to truly make Dante a badass are very hard to master. You can run through the game with a had full of combos and get through it.

You don't get the same feeling of pulling someone close and getting a hit in with Rebellion, seeing enemies closing in, using the shotgun like nunchucks to hit 3 of them to interrupt their wind up, getting two hits with the sword, pause, switch to the blade things to pull all the enemies closer, launch multiple enemies in the air with the ax, pull yourself up to them, take a swing with the scythe, then fully charge up a ground smash with the fist so they hit the ground a split second before you do and you scatter the enemies so you can focus on the big guy that just popped up with a chainsaw.

I'm having a blast with the game, and I still haven't gotten all the small details down, like parrying attacks, just dodges, the mid-air hike, and buffering charge attacks with different weapons. There is a shit-ton of depth in the game, but if you want to button mash your way through it, I bet you could. As a huge fan of DMC, this game has surprised the hell out of me.

If you want to play DMC like God of War or Dante's Inferno, you can. If you want to play DMC like DMC, you can. It's all how YOU want to play the game. They did a great job of making the game accessible to new players, and keeping the old DMC intact for people that want a challenge. And I hated the old Dante, he was a douche bag, the new Dante just comes off as cocky. The hair I could care less about.

tl;dr You get out of the game what you put into it. You want a hack 'n slash, play like that. You want DMC play like that.

This situation sort of reminds me of Mass Effect in a way, that being those who spent over 200 hours playing through all three games weren't happy with the end result were as those who didn't invest that time or didn't invest themselves into the franchise as much as some couldn't understand the problem.

For Mass Effect I was on the side of those who felt let down, however this is my first DMC game and I am really enjoying the game, I like Dante as a character and can't see why people are complaining.

Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

Sorry if slightly of topic btw.

well i just watched angryjoes review on youtube and im convinced DMC is a good game. And that fanboys that said it was a bad game are wrong.

Devil May Cry 5: Why You Should Start Over in 2025

It's been six years since Capcom dropped Devil May Cry 5, but it's still more than worth replaying in 2025 thanks to its rich gameplay.

You sound like you’re just a ton of fun to be around.

franwex25d ago

It’s been sitting in my backlog for a while now. One of the first games I wanted to try for this current gen due to the long load times of previous gen. I’ll get around to it soon!

Zenzuu25d ago

One of the best, stylish, and fun action slasher on the system. You definitely should get to it, as soon as you can.

solideagle24d ago

they are taking way too much time with DMC6...

VersusDMC24d ago

The DMC5 team went on to make Dragons Dogma 2, the DMC director (3,4,5) left capcom to make an action game at another studio and the rumor is that a DMC remake is next...so i wouldn't hold my breath on DMC6.

Everytime its on sale I think about buying it but never do. I only played the orginal and somr of 3 so I guess that's part of it.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC388d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos387d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga387d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer388d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey602388d ago (Edited 388d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya388d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde388d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP388d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
