Unlike EVE Online's strategy-focused space combat, Jumpgate: Evolution centers on action, more akin to something like Wing Commander or Freelancer. Starting out you choose between one of three factions to determine what type of ship models will be available to you. While the ships look different, they all can fight, so it's not like one race can only be effective at mining, or another are only for trade. Instead of a class system, NetDevil made is so you just buy different types of ships to suit the kind of action you want to participate in.
