Splitkick: Gaming headsets are a crowded market space with each manufacturer producing multiple models to fill various price points. Skullcandy purchased high-end boutique headset maker Astro this year. The Astro name will still reside on the pricier units, but the new budget offerings get Skullcandy branding. They are also keeping these models separate from the Astro line, but borrowing some key features to put in the more affordable gear. The SLYR headset is the entry-level model, and while it doesn’t share all the bells and whistles of its more expensive relatives like the PLYR1 and PLYR2 headsets, it still has plenty of features rounding out the low end of the line.
EB: Skullcandy sent over the Halo 5 Edition Smokin’ Buds 2 earbuds to check out, so I put it through the audio paces to see how they stand up. Quite frankly, the Smokin’ Buds 2 are fantastic earbud style headphones for the price, which is just $30, and the Halo 5 paint job and REQ pack are nice touches for the offering.
EB: Halo 5: Guardians’ launch is right around the corner, so Skullcandy has released its Halo 5: Guardians Edition Smoking’ Buds 2 earphones for your listening pleasure.
This year at E3, Astro Gaming was focusing on a pair of new products that are coming soon.
