Sui Generis, a project by the new studio Bare Mettle Entertainment out of the UK, is a PC only RPG that will use a custom graphics engine and promises a unique take on physics based combat. There is a custom tool set that the developers are using, and it allows them to create a dynamic world. There are no classes in Sui Generis, but a more natural progression to how your character gains abilities. The terrain is created on the fly with no load screens, and there are no linear decisions to be made.
Megan Myrick writes: "The case of Sui Generis isn’t really a unique one on Kickstarter. It raised £160,000 in 2012 things seemed to be going well, but then the updates stopped. There is a twist to this story, the game has not been abandoned."
Sui Generis: Exanima, a unique fully physics-based top-down dungeon crawler, that’s also a Kickstarter success, just launched on Steam’s Early Access available for the public after 2 years and a half of development and private testing.
IncGamers asks Sui Generis developer Madoc Evans about the game's ambitions, design philosopies and how the unrestrained RPG is progressing.
This really is an amazing game. Procedural design has got to be the future of game designing...it's so cool.
I am really excited for this game as well. I was not sure about it when the video started but when they showed the combat and the world they impressed me.
