Ok, so I'm not interested in the score here but what I'd like to point out is something that I've seen mentioned in a few reviews now, including IGNs:

They tell you that there is less cart modding. That couldn't be further from the truth. This game offers far more modding than in MNR. You can take the parts available and mix and match them, or you can take anything you make with material and make that into a cart, or you can make ANY object into a cart. You can also change everything about the way that cart handles. AI can also be tweaked.

What this boils down to is the fact that the tools are so deep and complex that it will take weeks or even months to come to grips with. Because it's in 3D, it becomes quite a challenge to get your head around -- I know I couldn't in the beta (and I complained about it over at the official beta forums). But, once I'd seen what the community had created with this game, I had to concede that it was my inabilities that made me draw the wrong conclusion.

I think there are a few dummies being spat in these reviews.

thorstein4598d ago

IGN and Destructoid says it all. Trolls and trolls. The only way to kill a troll is with flame >:D

I just don't care about reviews anymore. If there is a game I am interested in and there is a good review of it, I will read it, because then they will be honest about the flaws. Granted Skyrim received reviews based on early gameplay.

Reviewers are the worst though, their collective work amounts to nothing but a giant pile of dung. No one builds statues to critics. These lame "journalists" can't even create a crappy game in a lifetime, yet they self appoint themselves to title of "critic." What a joke!

baldulf4598d ago

I agree, game journalism has long ago forgotten what makes a game fun.

All they care about is their next paycheck.

Dee_914598d ago (Edited 4598d ago )

like dude said in comments of ign review for this game.If its not brining up glitches and technical issues dont worry about it , treat it as another comment on n4g

I have played the beta but I dont have the game so I cant judge. But I never really looked at reeviews until Gt5 released so I dont know if reviews have always been as subjective as they are now.But I have read and watched music and movie reviews and they always review as the consumer and throw hype completely out the window. What I mean by as the consumer I mean they dont share personal opinion if its not their cup of tea ( or dont let their personal opinion effect the score), they instead put they self in the consumers shoes.
Its pretty much the opposite with game reviews.
Some of thse so called journalist might think they enjoy all genres but its pretty obvious they dont and much prefer shooters and rpgs more.

And to continue what Gribble was saying, That just shows they spend a limited amount of time actually playing the game.Same happened with gt5 when a review said you get more damage when you reach a certain level.Haha I bet kaz and pd where like Wth if they read those revies

willie324598d ago

There are already things I prefer about this game over MNR.

1. It actually has a theme.
2. Shorter Load Times
3. Event Variety (Races, Death Match, and Egg Capture)
4. Options to vote on multiple maps online

I have lost all faith in many reviewers these days. This is a solid game that is better than the 5 given by IGN.

eferreira4598d ago

mario kart deserves a 9 because it has gliding and underwater segments.... GAME CHANGER /s

The weird moment when people call Greg Miller a fanboy for Uncharted 3... and then call him a troll for LBP Karting

GribbleGrunger4598d ago (Edited 4598d ago )

Well some people just can't help but make their attacks personal I'm afraid, but I don't think the IGN situation is about Greg Miller, it's about IGN since they're App deal with MS. Greg Miller needs employment at the moment.

Blankman854598d ago (Edited 4598d ago )

Lol Gribble, so now its a full blown conspiracy? Does Destructoid also have an xbox app?
Lol you sony types are hilarious, from conspiracy theories to tears of rage, you make coming to this site a colourful experience

andibandit4597d ago

@GribbleGrunger

"Ok, so I'm not interested in the score here "

ok.....is that why you've only written this in the reviews where it scored lower than 7?

Im not buying this game until a price drop happens.. That or i play it somewhere n fall in love

Kingthrash3604598d ago

Reviewers? No such thing s reviewers anymore. Just gamers who play games earlier than we do, and get paid for it. Sounds like heaven until they have 6 games on thier desk to review ASAP, so they be the first to have it on their site. Then it becomes a race to beat six games (or not) instead of analyzing it correctly.they start comparing games to other games they previously played. Then they post what they can see like frame rate, graphics, or controls. U know, the stuff anyone can see after 30 minutes with any game. Instead of actually enjoying the game ( or trying to enjoy) they race to beat some and concentrate one the ones they like. I'd say they're too busy with halo or AC to actually properly review the others like lbpr or rag odd. Sadness really gaming has gone Hollywood ... Smh

Top Ten Under-appreciated Kart Racers

Phil writes, "The kart racer: a sub-genre in the racing game genre that generally features video game mascots and colorful cartoon characters competing in speedy races against one another for the sole goal of crossing the finish line in first place. No doubt Super Mario Kart made this sub-genre popular and put it on the map, but for every well-done Mario-branded racer, there are countless others that fall through the cracks. For this purpose SPC brings back The Tuesday 10s to list ten underrated and under-appreciated kart racers from a wide swath of developers and franchises."

I agree with ModNation Racers. I did have a good time with what I did get to play at a friends some time ago. Nickelodeon Racers though? If it’s anything like the original, that’s a hard pass…

Teflon021482d ago

Don't agree with Mario Kart tour as it's not underappreciated. It's just literally not great. Everyone has tried it.

On the other hand ModNation, Mikey's Speedway USA, CTR, and LBPK I agree with. Though CTR with the rereleases recently hasn't been all that underappreciated and that with Diddy Kong Racing are my all time favourite ones. I think sonic transformed is very under appreciated though.

Outside of CTR ModNation is the most underappreciated because the game was amazing and don't think it even sold a million. But the community was always pretty cool. Creating was never hard. But it could be as complex as you wanted it to be so it was for everyone. I'm still praying Sony makes a ModNation Racers sequel for PS5 as the only issue the game had imo was load times and not being 60fps

Horny1482d ago

I hope they do as well, I had the game on ps3 but never spend a good amount of time with it which I kind of regret, would love to give it another go.

BrainSyphoned1482d ago

Chocobo Racing can't get no love

MadLad1482d ago

There's a little known kart game called Bears Can't Drift that had a bunch of potential, was fun to play, but low sales that left the dev to simply abandon the project before fixing technical issues with the game.

They really did have a good game on their hands, but they gave up before it could reach full potential.

phoenixwing1482d ago (Edited 1482d ago )

I remember just only playing the demo of a game called speed punks that game was fun

played all ps3 exclusives
last gen when i owned the system haven't played asura wrath though will play it on this emulator

Teflon022559d ago

Couldn't you just use a much more playable Xbox 360 Emu for that?

Rhythmattic2559d ago

Fark... I almost forgot how good K2 looked....
I must go boot it up on my PS3 and play through it again.....

MadLad2559d ago

And then the 20fps comes into play and you question whether it is even worth it.

ChrisW2559d ago (Edited 2559d ago )

The frame rate drop wasn't that bad... The sloppy controls are what ruined it for me.

Maybe someone can make the controls better through the emulator?

Rhythmattic2559d ago

Most frame drops where due to streaming and loading a new level...
As far as in combat, i didn't notice a drop at all.
So your right, but also wrong.

MadLad2559d ago

I'm not. Go play 2 and 3 again. I might be more in-tune being I usually play at very high fps, but the game definitely drops into the low 20s during combat, and on multiple occasions.

Scar-2559d ago

Its funny how bitchy pc gamer are about frame rates but they are silent as mice with this. I get that its going to be better eventually but its been muddy and unplayable for MONTHS now stop showing it till its done. Whats the point of playing ps3 games on a pc at a far worst frame rate aside from being a fanboy??

Doge2559d ago

“Whats the point of playing ps3 games on a pc at a far worst frame rate aside from being a fanboy??”

Another PS3 emulator article, another person who doesn’t get it.

MadLad2559d ago

We'll wait on the inevitably superior emulated version.
You can drop $40 on the lackluster, up-res compilation down the the road.

We both win.

riibhu2559d ago

" I get that its going to be better eventually "
there you already have your answer. As for this article it's purpose is to show the progress, not final result. So why stop?? You don't have to read it.

Vegamyster2559d ago

You're assuming that those who complain about FPS are the same people who are playing this, very few people will actually try to play this in its current shape.

Crazy. I dont have a good PC to emulate these games (still have my ps3 anyway) but it makes me happy knowing in another ~15 years I might be able to just boot up some of these classics on my then potatoPC from 2029

Yay all those monster elite pcs can play more old games, awesome.

Modnation Racers and LittleBigPlanet Karting Servers Shutting Down

Sony Interactive Entertainment will be shutting the servers down for two PS3 racing games in July.

Teflon022614d ago

Sad, hopefully they make a new Modnation racers game. wait, is it completely shutting down or can you still download tracks?

pody2614d ago

This is what I'm wondering also. There's so much quality maps available online and it would be unfortunate if people couldn't download those anymore.

Teflon022614d ago

Yeah, I didn't play much online anyways. But I always use to play local multi with my cousin and download so many amazing levels. Sadly 8 didn't get to platinum it. Had only the create trophy, level 30 and 100 races i think left. I had I believe 87 last time 8 checked lol. Might go on to see if I can get my last few lol. Remember my win ratio was decent since I did around 160 races maybe, 170 ranked

pody2613d ago

@Teflon02
Yeah same here, but I actually jumped in not too long ago to play again and it's still holds up great for a 8 year old game. It's was a really good game when it came out and it still is.

Chaos_Order2614d ago

I had some good memories playing Modnation. :( Sad to see it go, but it was inevitable.
