DmC interview: 'We knew we could turn the tables on fan outcry'

CVG- News that Capcom was handing off development of one of its most cherished franchises to a western studio didn't go down well at all with the fans. With just a redesigned protagonist to cling to, the public bombarded DmC's developer and publisher with a torrent of negativity.

Vocal Devil May Cry faithfuls refused to entertain the idea that Ninja Theory, a studio that has thus far released two well-received titles - both acclaimed for narrative and characterisation - could introduce a fresh twist to the stagnating series. Or that Capcom Japan's hands-on approach to development would enshrine the deep, core gameplay of the series.

I want to give this game a try, but MAN are Capcom and NT A-holes. They're so stuck up it makes me sick...

Jinkies4194d ago

I know right

They havent turned the tables, people are still ticked off, typical Capcom, keep lying untill you believe its true. This is why they dont deserve success with the game, they are stuck up

Information Minister4193d ago

Do these guys even live on the same planet as the rest of us?

In over 20 years of gaming, I think this is the first time I've ever wanted to see a game flop.

''We knew we could turn the tables on fan outcry'

Translation = "We picked and chose our positive reactions"

Lord_Sloth4194d ago

Your posts always make me laugh, but you shouldn't have shaved your beard.

Kyosuke_Sanada4194d ago

I'm guessing on the Capcom forums.....-shrugs-

More like in Capcom-Unity( aka Capcom-"FanboysUnitys )

jimbobwahey4194d ago

Never as far as I know, but we keep seeing articles from gaming sites talking about how they changed peoples minds about the game.

It's weird because that hasn't happened at all, yet there keep being reports of it? It seems like they're just asking gaming websites to print these stories to be honest. It's not like any of them have any credibility anyways, so it's not far fetched.

rezzah4194d ago

media is a powerful tool, second to the law.

zerocrossing4194d ago

Im really disappointed with all the lies coming from these articles.

It's one thing for Capmcom and NT to promise to try and please fans that are still sceptic in regards to DmC's new direction, but to say they've "proven that they turned the tables on fan outcry" is insulting.

PopRocks3594194d ago

Wait when did that happen? I thought all Capcom did this year was piss people off.

zerocrossing4194d ago

Yeah but instead of facing that reality they've resorted to outright denial.

Kinda sad really, if they weren't being such A** holes about it that is.

Vandamme214194d ago

Game is looking awesome..I'm definetly gonna get it.

I lost interest after DMC2. Loved the first, the second was just a shadow of the first and I don't even know what the hell was going on with the 3rd. I rented that one back in the day and it just bore no resemblance to that fun game I played with the original DMC. I remember spending a couple of hours on it and still not feeling like I understood what the hell was going on with the controls or what I was supposed to be doing before just moving on to some other game. DMC4 I just passed up altogether.

It was obvious to me after the 3rd that the series had just departed too much from the fun, accessible action of the first and instead went into some weird, Japanese place where everyone was some sort of fighting game master and you needed to be too to pick up the controls. I never really cared for any fighting game other than Mortal Combat 2 in the arcades and later I dug Soul Caliber 2. The reviewers said 3 was fantastic if you could get past, as Gamespot put it, the "ridiculously unreasonably difficulty" early on in the game. I couldn't and I've always felt like I missed out, although not enough to make me go back and play the damned thing. I felt much the same way about the rebooted Ninja Gaiden games.

I've nothing against challenging games but for some reason these series just didn't inspire me to want to get past the difficult points. I don't know why. I know I'm in the minority, and I agree, the game looks freakn cool. That's what bugs me. I want to enjoy it because it looks like a game that would be right up my alley, but I know I won't enjoy it.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC11d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos10d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga10d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer11d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey60211d ago (Edited 11d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya11d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde11d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP10d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
