Review: Assassin's Creed III [pixelrelated.net]

The largest issue with Assassin’s Creed III is just how long everything takes to get going. The game is broken into twelve “sequences” and six of them are spent with a great deal of time in tutorials. It causes the game to take hours upon hours to actually do anything interesting. When it finally gets going, it’s often times well worth it. However, this opening bogs the entire experience down heavily.

It is an incredible game, but the Desmond bits are a little underwhelming. The historical aspect is FANTASTIC though.

ginsunuva4604d ago

Yes, indeed, Journey is the best 2012 game.

Gambit_the_White4604d ago

There's nothing bad about this game. I don't know what the hell this review is all about, but this game is fantastic. Buy it.

M1chl4604d ago (Edited 4604d ago )

You know, its a really good game and I am enjoying it... But on the other hand I agree on score. Wierd? Maybe, but in my honest opinions this game should have never been released in this state. It needs serious polish. Like year or so . There are so many bugs there, I have to restart missions few times already (I am currently in Sequence 10) thanks to great work in Q/A department. I am playing on X360 version, don't know if PS3 version is any better (I hope it is).

My advice: Don't wait for price cut, wait for patch...

edit: typos

knifefight4604d ago

I have enjoyed games that I would have given a score of 4/10. Sometimes, a game is fun, but you can see areas where it comes up short, or areas that lack polish.

That said, I am not accusing Assassin's Creed 3 of this, since I have not yet played it. I'm just saying this has happened to me before, where I'd have to give a game a low-ish numerical score, even though I enjoyed my time with it.

M1chl4604d ago

I totally agree, I have been in same situation many times. But thats not how the scoring system works in general, so I am glad to see, that I am not alone with this scoring system, where you can enjoy games, that you personally rated pretty badly.

grailly4604d ago

it's not a 5/10 bad, but I can't say I'm having lots of fun with it... it involves a lot of (free)running. I guess it depends on if you are having fun while (free)running you'll like the game, otherwise wait for a price drop. Don't get me wrong, I think the tree climbing is fun and fresh and I enjoy doing just that. It's just that the building freerunning isn't as fun anymore and running in the streets can feel like a mess.

KatanaSquirrel4604d ago

As the author of this review, I want to make something clear. By our standard, 5 out of 10 is NOT bad. We use a full 1 through 10 scale, with 5 being average. There are some great things AC3, but a lot of things bog the experience down from what it should be.

BlaqMagiq244604d ago

Get it. Trust me you will not be disappointed.

Nimblest-Assassin4604d ago

Its incredible, just eclipsed Borderlands 2 as the best game of the year for me

Also remember, there is always that one site

whoever wrote this bullshit are not a gamer for me wtf man
this game is so amazing i mean how da fuck can u give such a game a 5 u better close ur site cuz u have really no idea wut good games are
damn it man

bubblebeam4604d ago

Flag the site down. Happens to all the big games.
Borderlands 2, AC3, Uncharted 3 and most recently Halo 4.

If you don't like a game, it doesn't mean it is very buggy and messy (which a 5/10 would indicate).

ELinktricTears4604d ago

This score is definitely in the minority

A2X_4604d ago

They just want attention, don't even bother clicking on the link. I'm 20 hours in the game and still at 30% completion. This is the Assassin's Creed I've always wanted. Flawless animations (though they should update the horse animations, still a bit clunky), beautiful graphics despite the few bugs (nothing gamebreaking like some people make it sound). Definitely worth a 9 for me.

DivineAssault 4604d ago

Cant trust reviewers anymore.. This is getting inconsistant reviews as well as Hello 4 on this site.. Meta critic has em both at great numbers.. Buy the game if u like the series/genre.. if not, dont.. Or just rent it first..

BrianC62344604d ago

I just ignore all reviews now. They aren't worth anything. Some games I know I want before they're out. Others I'm not sure so I wait and see what gamers say. If most reviews say the same thing then I trust them to be right. I don't pay any attention to reviews like this one.

Why Assassin's Creed 2 and 3 Had the Best Writing the Series Has Ever Seen

IGN - Assassin's Creed's focus on character-driven storytelling has been buried by its RPG sandbox features, and the series is weaker for it.

RaidenBlack88d ago

A rare W opinion piece from IGN.
IMO, Ubisoft needs to setup two primary AC dev teams. 1 would focus on and release character-driven OG-style AC games for OG fans and the other would continue the current RPG-ified AC style for current fans.
Release by them Bi-annually and alternatively. There'd less fatigue and a boost to quality.

ZeekQuattro88d ago

I definitely appreciate 3 more after playing it again in recent years along with the Liberation game. Back when 3 was new I was still riding high on AC2 and Brotherhood so when I played 3 I felt a bit let down. Even the ship battles grew on me.

-Foxtrot88d ago

AC2 - Yes

AC3 - Urm...I don't know

I feel they kind of dropped the ball with AC3 and with the way the story went it just didn't make sense to me at all. I felt it would have made more sense lore wise if they had it so the Red Coats were mostly Assassins and the Templars were mostly the Colonists who wanted this "new world" as a fresh start for their operations, to build a country up they'd have full control of from the start so they manufacture the war as something else while really it's just a front for the Templars vs Assassins.

It just meant that since the Red coats lose the war it explains how the Templars have gained full control of future America and how the Assassins have slowly died out by then. This entire event would have been the turning point of how things went to s**t for the Assassins and how there's not many of them left in the present.

Haythem was a lot more interesting than Connor and he should have been the main Assassin of AC3.

lucasnooker88d ago (Edited 88d ago )

I thought AC2 was the greatest of the series and it is but replaying it recently, I stared to see more flaws in the game. Basically every single mission is an assassination besides a few tailing missions lol. Still, the implementation of all the new mechanics were great. The smoke bombs, disarming guards, story, hidden tombs, swimming, flying machine, multiple locations, etc. it definitely felt a bit more special to me at the time of release though

isarai87d ago

Dunno about 3, the 1st act was cool, then i couldn't tell you what happens after that. But 2 was so good! The entire acts 1-3 were al memorable, whereas i really couldn't even tell you what happens in any other AC game

Games with the dumbest NPCs

Non-playable characters in certain games are meme material, thanks to their foolish behavior. These are the big-budget games with the dumbest NPCs.

Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩

My first thought was the safe rooms in the resident evil series. When you hear that enchanting music you know you’re safe.

Killer2020UK683d ago

I literally just came here to post this. That music in the Resi 1 safe rooms is playing in my head.

Rimeskeem682d ago

I was thinking TLOU work benches. Although I remember one time where it was a false security.

closed_account682d ago

Perfect. 👌👌

I'd add the top of my highrise apartment in GTA Online. That calm, quiet peace, just knowing as soon as I step out that door I will be bombarded by 8 and 12 year olds calling each other n**** and f****, trolled by combat jets and rocket launchers.

The entire map of SotC is peaceful as hell. Used to just ride around exploring it.

mastershredder683d ago (Edited 683d ago )

Afterlife in Cyberpunk 2077 is a peaceful area? Erm, hands down and very hard to miss, Misty Olszewski's Esoterica is the absolute epitome of peaceful areas in that game.

raiden_188683d ago

The "last of us" deer location i found to be a welcoming respite. It was nice to not have someone trying to eat me.

RPGer682d ago

Kingdom Hearts tend to present half peaceful areas and most of them are amazing.
