It was obvious that third parties would support Sony very early on only because of the success of PS2, but then they started to see how the industry was changing with the Wii and the 360 and had to change strategies. Sadly, Sony didn't help by making a lot of mistakes this generation, so a lot of third parties had to become multiplatform.

Next generation is going to be interesting to see which console will be on top. With the emerge of casual gaming on IOS and android, will Sony still be supporting AAA hardcore games like this generation? Will Microsoft will keep supporting and giving priority to casual games with Kinect?. As it stands, Sony has the most first party exclusives, but Nintendo has the most successful.

I hope that at least the quality of the games don't drop next generation. Nintendo knows how to treat their first party games, and so does Sony. Microsoft has really improved with Halo 4, and hopefully they will have much more exclusives next gen. What worries me a lot is third parties, because this generation a lot of them made rushed games, they wanted to milk consumers as much as they could, and if this trend continues, I am afraid that Sony, MS and Nintendo start doing the same.

Online will also be a very important aspect next generation of consoles. Not only about features like Cross game chatting, but the entire platform will decide which console will be successful. They need to have a platform with great UI and have great content from games to movies to multimedia offerings.

With the rumored next gen specs , ps4/Xbox? have standard pc components, it will be much easier to develope for both, I don't see a third party dev would want to make an exclusive (unless they get paid not to) when it's easy to have the game on both.

Every industry has these issues

Some companies I’ve worked for were great and some were toxic as hell (UPS when I was a teenager was extremely toxic and I have heard it still is) It all starts at the top. They either hold people accountable , set standards and treat people with respect or the crap rolls downhill.
