RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D Review [Capsule Computers]

Dustin Spencer from Capsule Computers writes: When it comes to large, historic franchises, RollerCoaster Tycoon is definitely on the list of most prestigious for a number of reasons. Even though the park sim idea has run it’s course, it is still fun crafting crazy coasters while keeping that income flowing in. Recently, N-Space and Atari partnered up to deliver the hit franchise to the 3DS. Yeah, with a touchscreen in tow along with the 3D visuals, you would think that this would be a recipe for easy success. Sadly, this Tycoon offering comes up a few rides short compared to it’s much older and more polished predecessors.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D (Hooked Gamers review)

In all, if you are looking for a watered down portable version of a RollerCoaster Tycoon game where you design park layouts, then RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D will suffice. If you are after something a bit more managerial as well as the design, then you may have to go back to your PC. As it stands, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D is akin to a Facebook game such as Farmville or Cityville but set in a fun park theme. The visuals look nice in the 3D environment and it is certainly enjoyable to view your creations in a first person 3D mode. But the issue with the paths and disappearing facilities on the mini map show a distinct lack of polish. Maybe the game is just made for a younger crowd. Maybe my expectations are just too high."

Impulse Gamer: It’s hard to believe that is has been eight long years since we last saw a title from the extremely popular Rollercoaster Tycoon series, but now in 2012 Rollercoaster Tycoon 3D attempts to heal the gaping holes present in the hearts of fans. Unfortunately Tycoon 3D could be the worst of the series, merely being a stripped down and poorer version of its predecessors.
