Forza Horizon Review | This Is Xbox

This Is Xbox: "Forza Horizon is the best racing game ever seen on the Xbox 360 to date, and it’s one we think others will spend a long time trying to beat; an outstanding addition to the Forza series that deserves to be a massive success."

wow, wasn't really in the mood for a driving game at the moment, but this is getting such amazing scores, I might have to pick it up!

Krew_924586d ago (Edited 4586d ago )

That's a weird way of deciding which games to pick, I mean I base my purchases on everything from personal opinions to other people's experiences and reviews, but buying a game solely on high score reviews?

That's kind of backwards, I'm sure other people reviewed this game negatively, why not read some of those to make sure?

I'm not saying this is a bad game, but I just found it weird people still based purchases primarily off of reviews, and just any reviews, just high scoring ones.

'That's a weird way of deciding which games to pick'

So wait..so now we are pretending that we don't check out games that are getting great reviews?

It's his decision regardless, but how is it so particuliarly odd for gamers to check out games that are getting high nods from reviewers in ANY gen.

On topic..

I can't wait to pick this up either and give it a spin..

I thought Horizon looked great even at E3, but it's awesome to see how much love Playground Games is getting for the title.

Hopefully it's the start of a long standing franchise outside of Turn 10's standard Forza series.

@EVILDEAD360

I didn't say we shouldn't check reviews, just forget it. I was on fence if I should respond haha it happens to me all the time here, if you go to my comment history you can see me frequently regretting even replying to someone, I guess I can't decide how to articulate what I say sometimes.

Anyways as I frequently say, I don't care and I will most likely be playing this game when it comes out.

ChunkyLover534585d ago

I think the game was a little under the radar, they released the embargo early because they were obviously confident in the product. Great reviews gain attention and that is probably the hope. I already knew it'd be great, pre-ordered the LE months ago.

I am glad that through the demo and all these great scores that people are starting to pay attention though.

chazjamie4585d ago

cause not all of us can afford terrible games.

Knight_Crawler4585d ago

Have to agree with you...I bought GTA4 soley of the 10's it got and that was the most disappointing game I ever bought, first GTA game that I never finished or played over and over.

Since that I never trust reviews and always play the demo first or rent the game before I purchase...R* will probably not have as demo for GTA5 because they never do but I will not purchase this game based on reviews because R* always gets a free pass with reviews and get 9 and 10.

Still on the fence on this game despite the good reviews. I Still play TDU2 but am looking for something to tear me away from that game.

Animal Mutha 764586d ago

I'm a tdu fan as well. The thing that bugs me about this forza is that the open world isn't always on live. You can't just rock up to some random human player and flash them like you can in tdu. You have to set up a multiplayer lobby. The game by default runs in a kind of single player offline mode unless you create a mp race or game.

I wanted it to be fully open online as per tdu. It's fun finding people to race against or admire their wheels.

Shame because it sounds like they got most of the rest of it right.

I won't buy straight away I'll check out some gameplay vids first.

ALICE6664585d ago (Edited 4585d ago )

What? that sounds like its gonna suck big time. Whats the point of open world if you cant free roam and find random players to challenge etc? for a 2012 open world game this news is very disapointing to me. Feature-wise I think it also doesnt even hold a candle to TDU either. Might just wait for it to go cheap then give it a try.. could be a good 2 or 3 hrs play through lol.

JellyJelly4585d ago

I'm surprised by the score. The full game might be amazing but the demo didn't impress me at all.

WayneKerr4585d ago

Wish the PS3 had a AAA 90%-plus rated driving series.

DigitalRaptor4585d ago (Edited 4585d ago )

So do I, in a way. I really enjoy playing the driving sim with night racing and weather effects though.

10 Years On, It's Hard To Actually Celebrate Forza Horizon's Legacy

Forza Horizon has been around for 10 years today, but due to the franchise's constant "End Of Life" policies, it's hard to celebrate.

Literally the only XBox exclusive that I still regularly play. I'm glad I had bought FH3 (PC) when I did, but this really sucks for other people who never picked it up. I still love the Australian Outback setting most of all.

Forza Horizon Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "When the Forza Horizon games franchise launched in 2012, it was an enjoyable spin-off of the highly successful simulation racer. A decade later, the Horizon series has overtaken Forza Motorsport series as one of, if not the, premiere driving video games of all time."

Don't think there's literally a "worst" Forza game man. Microsoft just makes these too damn good.

MaximusPrime_1036d ago

Microsoft didn't develop (make) Forza, Playground Games did.

Microsoft simply published it.

SinisterMister1036d ago

Ah okay. Thanks for the correction mate!

MadLad1036d ago

I see no difference being they've only ever made games for Microsoft on Microsoft's dime for the entirety of their existence as a developer.

Godmars2901036d ago

@MadLad:
The amount of MTs and repeated attempts at rivalry towards Gran Turismo.

darthv721036d ago

@god, i think you are confusing motorsport with horizon. MS is compared to GT, Horizon isnt.

MadLad1036d ago

@godmars

Care to explain how that has anything to do with anything here?

DOMination-1036d ago

lol.. pedantic much? ^ PG and the Forza IP are owned by Microsoft.

FH5 may be a technical marvel but it's been a buggy mess since launch and PG seem intent to add new content without ever bothering to fix anything. Many of which were bugs that were also in FH4.

FH3
FH1
FH4
FH5
FH2 (still good but the structure was messed up - too much emphasis on grinding "roadtrips" which was tedious)

jznrpg1036d ago (Edited 1036d ago )

They didn’t buy Playground until 2018 or 2019 I forget which year but it hasn’t been that long . The first Forza came out in 2005 . So most of the games were published by MS at the time but they didn’t own PlayGround. MS doesn’t make good studios in general , they buy them .

DOMination-1036d ago

When Sony buys a studio after working with them for a couple of games, people on here call it an "organic purchase". MS & Playground made three very good games, based on an existing IP using an engine made by Turn 10 before purchasing them. But it is still pedantic. Shall we say that Sony didn't make The Last of Us? Or that they don't "own" the first 12 Ratchet & Clank games because they only purchase Insomniac a few years back? We all know what they meant.

Anyway, Forza Motorsport has always been developed by Turn 10. Which Microsoft built from the ground up. So when you refer to games from 2005, your point about only buying studios is completely wrong.

darthv721036d ago

You left out a FH2, there were two versions. The one made for XBO by playground and the one made for 360 by sumo digital. There are enough differences to warrant each one being on its own.

monkey6021036d ago

FH3 is my favourite by a long shot. I got surprisingly bored of FH5 quick enough unfortunately so that's down the bottom of my list

sammarshall1021036d ago

Yeah I think this series peaked with Forza Horizon 3

Orbilator1036d ago

I really dont care for any of the horizons. Hate having to do what I'm told. Forza 7 was the same, I didn't want to do anything other than race cars. But it made me drive lorries!!!..

Technically they all good games but I want the next Forza to be a proper car racer, all the trucks etc can be put under an arcade racing section which I never have to go into.

MrBaskerville1035d ago

The mandatory gimmick races are a bit of a bad habit in FM games, atleast since 5. Also dislike the heavy amount of unskipable cutscenes and dialouge in FM5 and perhaps 7.

Azraeia1035d ago

Tbh I found FH3 to actually be my favourite and the one I played the most.

The one I got bored of very quickly was 4. Wasn't a fan of the seasons and driving round England was boring cause its where I live. Got very old quick.

glennhkboy1035d ago

I still think 2 (Xbox One version) is my personal best. Driving an Italian supercars on an Italian highway just feel so "right"!!!!! "2" make me understand why Italian make those supercars.

I don't know why so many do not like 4. I like the seasonal change & dramatic weather change. 5 seems to dial the weather change way way down that the weather seldom change (Is the real Mexico really has such a perfect weather all the time?).

How the Sophisticated Sky Capturing Brings the Forza Horizon Franchise to Life

KeenGamer: "The advanced sky capturing gives the Forza Horizon franchise a natural and realistic feeling. Yet, it's a long process from capturing to complete in-game sky. It's a technology that was introduced during the development of Forza Horizon 3, which provided more beauty and were widely praised by players."

Forza 4 looks really great now that Series updates have been applied. In Forza 5 Microsoft uses photo technology throughout the entire game. The volcano setting in Mexico looks amazing!

Lightning771395d ago

All this sky tech will no doubt make its way into the new Fable.

Sol4ris1394d ago

Incredible looking game, and it's not even powered by the next iteration of the ForzaTech engine which is still developed by Turn10.
Time to flex that 12TF.

VariantAEC1387d ago

Maybe that's why it looks so meh to me.
