NWR: Nintendo has a spotty history when it comes to making art games. Going all the way back to Mario Paint, they have shown an interest in bringing fans innovative ways to create art with their game consoles. Since then, there have been several attempts to do just that, including their 1999 release for the Nintendo 64DD, Mario Artist. However, neither title became as successful as Nintendo's most recent collaborative effort with Headstrong Games, Art Academy.

NWR: As a person who has struggled to draw a passable happy face all my life, I had my work cut out for me with Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone on 3DS. From Battalion Wars developer Headstrong Games, Art Academy fortunately proved to be a shining example of how learning software should be done. Less a game and more a tool, Art Academy takes you through the paces of learning how to draw using various painting/drawing utensils and materials with simple and short step-by-step tasks.
