Skyrim: Dawnguard PS3 Still A Focus, Dishonored Won't Suffer Similar Issues

There's still no budging on Skyrim: Dawnguard coming to PS3, unfortunately, but Bethesda's Pete Hines claims it is still important to developer.

Bethesda has had a lot of flak over Skyrim: Dawnguard recently since it claimed there were issues on bringing the content over to PS3 that might never get resolved.

"Right now our focus is on getting it to work so we can release it," answered Hines to a question over whether Dawnguard will ever release on PS3, "Not on what we do if we can't."

Dishonored won't suffer similar issues because Bethesda isn't developing it. They're simply the publisher. To hell with them still.

Christopher4404d ago

More importantly, it's not using Bethesda's in-house engine that's been used since Oblivion on Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. The problem isn't the PS3, it's their engine and how they manage memory with it.

Carl_Shocker4404d ago (Edited 4404d ago )

Exactly and yet when creating the creation engine for Skyrim they didn't build it around the PS3 and the 360...

I mean they had a chance to create an engine where it wouldn't suffer on one platform compared to the others and yet still focused on basing it around the 360/PC.

I'm pretty sure if I was in charge of creating a new engine with my studio I would make sure that the one of the platform the games going to be on, the one that I've had trouble with in the past can handle the new engine just as well as the others.

b163o14404d ago

Lmao what about Fallout4.

Bethesda has a track record of glitchy games

Blastoise4404d ago

Skyrim was a terrible game even when it worked...

Carl_Shocker4404d ago

I still don't trust them, with how much they've lied about PS3 versions of their games...developer/publisher.

Xbox 360 version it is...just to be on the safe side.

Christopher4404d ago

That's my problem with this issue. In the end, PS3 users lose out and Microsoft wins solely because Bethesda has proven that they can't design an engine to run on something that's not just like every PC out there. I think this is the real reason Sony is going to move back to a more-PC focused design with the PS4, but that's not necessarily the right way for technology to be expanding considering how much many first-party developers have shown that the cell processor design has improved other game elements (AI, physics, lighting, etc.).

first1NFANTRY4403d ago

how do u have so much bubbles? :0

GribbleGrunger4404d ago

It's too late Bethesda. Regardless of what you say or how many assurances you make, I will just never trust you again. You'll suffer in sales on the PS3 and rightly so.

Blankman854404d ago

Doubt it, as with CoD, PS3 owners will keep buying games they love even though the developers/publishers treat them like second rate customers.

Man_Among_Mice4403d ago

@Ndivhu I don't know, this situation really seems like it could be the straw that breaks the camel's back, so to speak. It's not like this was just a buggy game that everyone got and just sorta dealt with. They're failing to deliver a portion of their game to a third of their consumers. Maybe it's just me but that's certainly something that would give me at least a bit of pause, as a consumer, when considering their next game.

geddesmond4404d ago

Yeah but even if Bethesda were developing it just remember a few months before Skyrim launched Bethesda said Skyrim worked on the PS3 and it was getting just as much love on the PS3 as other platforms. Then days before the release they announced the timed Exclusive DLC for the Xbox. Thats giving it equal love?? and days after release we all found out Skyrim didn't work properly on the PS3.

They can stick Dishonored and any other future title of theirs up a place where the sun don't shine for all I care. I'm finished buying games that don't work and never get fixed. Fallout 3 still broken, Shivering Isles still broken, Fallout NV still broken, Skyrim will never be fixed. Don't hold your breath for any DLC on PS3. If they fix the dawnguard issues they'll just have more when trying to get Heathfire working and so on with each pack.

simply won't buy anymore of their games, just another customer they lose.

jagstatboy4404d ago

If I don't get Dawnguard, I'll be done with Bethesda.

Anon19744404d ago

Not me. Fallout 3, Skyrim, Oblivion are all in my list of top games I've enjoyed this gen. It would be unfortunate if Danwguard was never released for the PS3 (although highly unlikely) but even if it wasn't, I'll be the first in line to purchase Bethesda's next title whatever it is. They've provided me hundreds of hours of gaming bliss this gen. A missed DLC wouldn't even make me hesitate to support Bethesda in the future given all the enjoyment they've provided me over the years.

vickers5004404d ago

Same here. Fallout 3 had the best, most immersive open world I've ever played in a game. I enjoyed Fallout 3 way too much to ever miss out on another Bethesda developed game again. Skyrim was really good as well, and I didn't have any gamebreaking problems on it like many others did, I even platinum'd the game.

Sure, the lack of DLC for the ps3 version of Skyrim is a bummer, but it will most likely eventually come out, and if it doesn't, then oh well, I had a blast playing Skyrim, and any content that comes out later is just extra goodness. I've certainly enjoyed Skyrim more than a lot of other games people consider to be great these days, games that are linear and have mediocre stories (not saying skyrim has a good story, but at least it has the awesome open world to make up for it).

axerated4404d ago

Even if they get it to "work" the problematic state of the ps3 version means its likely to suffer from bugs and crashes and slowdowns etc. I'm still begrudging the fact they lowered the resolution without warning or even an admission, traded mine in, depending on how this business pans out maybe I'll pick up a game of the year edition at some point. For now, I'm gonna see what all this dark souls hype is about...

Reverent4404d ago

Dark Souls eats Skyrim's face off.

axerated4403d ago

Hahaha, I just read the article on ign that had that title, that's what got me intrigued!

R_aVe_N4404d ago

to hell with Bethesda I stopped believing them a long time ago.

Can’t wait to see what they’re working on

Relientk7748d ago

If it's something like Dishonored, then I am totally here for it.

TheNamelessOne48d ago

Let's hope. Their first game, Weird West, really wasn't my thing.

Miacosa47d ago

Ouch, already placing a sales cap on this is potentially bad as these games never seem to sell all too well. Hopefully the budget is in check so no one gets laid off after launch.

Psychonaut8547d ago

Fuck yeah. Even if it’s just a spiritual successor I want more titles like Dishonored in terms of art style, design and gameplay
