Some Totally Hatin' on PlayStation Home

Kotaku is pretty excited about PlayStation Home. Theoretically, it sounds cool, and Kotaku are keen to see how it plays out.

based on the article I know exactly what the problem is. Misinformation and that is mostly Sony's fault.

Home is not a game.

Home is a service that extends the functionality of home. It's not simulation where you will waste your life, unless you like to socialize with people all the time. In the same manner you do in Myspace and youtube.

It's not misinformation - it's a a result of a lack of understanding from those who see it as pointless. What Sony is trying to do here is unique and highly intriguing, and will result in an immersive, entertaining, and dynamic way to commune with other gamers and share information.

It's free for PS3 owners, so nobody should have cause to complain. Furthermore, it'll be a major selling point for the PS3, but I'm sure Sony doesn't intend to hype it too much before it's ready.

Wtf are they talking about? Kotaku have hated on PS home from the very minute it was announced, as they did everything else related to the PS3, and now they're saying "hey, we like it, but japan doesn't". Complete BS, they seriously need to stop with their crap agendas.

Home really just takes a lot of 2d websites/programs and puts them in 3d. I don't see why everyone is hating this so much when it's free. Sony isn't forcing this down anyones throat.

It's going to be a free download from the PS store, trophies will have a 2D layout and in-game XMB is coming. This isn't an "Xbox live killer" or does it define the Playstation Network.

Whats to hate about this? I don't get it.

I bet the Japanese gamers prefer a more "anime" or "Cel-shaded" style of PS Home. Japanese gamers don't dig Western or realistic styles that much (unless it's Final Fantasy style realism).

PS Home is being made by SCEE, so of course the designs will be based on European gamers mainly.

Sony isn't forcing anyone to use this... That must be made clear in this thread before all else. This isn't Something Sony is forcing your to use or even download. It's an "option" Sony isn't going to charge you any money for it. They're not going to break your arm, either. It's up to you if you want to experience it or not. You dont' care about it? That's great... don't download it.

who says Killzone 2 is 'supposed' to be shown?...Killzone 2s PR department, whether its SCE or Guerilla handling things at different times...rarely makes a lot of sense...I would be suprised if anything new is shown, as much as I wish to it to be true...

but correct me if I am wrong...GDC is more for developers...its not a place where things are "shown" to the public really...last year Killzone 2 was shown as a technical demonstration for different effects the system was capable of (some of which absolutely blows any other game out of the water apparently...real time light shining through bullet holes that you created)...but it was under a media lock-out, and sites were only allowed to talk about it, not show anything...

I think GDC is getting a lot more attention mostly because of the shift with E3...normally E3 would only be a couple months away, but instead its nearly 6...so maybe GDC will have a lot more information and demonstrations than it did in years past...but people are talking about a Gears of War 2 announcement?...does GDC ever have announcements like that?

Dude go somewhere else. I really dont see a pedophile spending 4-5 hundred bucks plus high speed internet subscriptions just to go online and prey on kids. although it is rather negative and is a worst case scenario, it is a great possibility that there will be some pervs attracting people, but, the only way to find age is to ask...also, sony has parental controls that can be set up to prevent this, but I don't think Home is going to be known as the place for pedo's because there arent that many young children on psn that arent using their parents account or sub account, it won't be a big deal, but is surely a possibility, parents just need to monitor their children.

I think its safe to say that no one console is going to dominate this generation. Nintendo has a commanding lead and looks to stay that way for a while. Microsoft managed to gain market share this generation ensuring their longevity, despite numerous durability issues. Finally sony's new found momentum just shows how much of a juggernaut sony really is. Despite some of the worst publicity for a console they've managed to sell just shy of 10 million units in 1 year. If that trend remains then the 10 year life expectancy will bring sony's third console into the 100 million territory. All of this adds up to the best generation of gaming in the industry's history. If this doesnt make you giddy then maybe you're in the wrong hobby.

Adc some popular Japanese games into the arcade. Invest and intergrate some JRPG aspects into the environment. Have an arena for PVP strategy. Give them awards for FF like boss costumes etc.

Once they see others interacting with home they'll likely have a change of opinion. The sheer competitive nature of japanese gamers isn't based on who's best all the time it's whats cool. It's hard to imagine them turning a blind eyes when or if home is intergrated into PSPs.

That would still be almost 1,000,000 users. However, I do believe that, since it´s free, a lot more people will be willing to try it out. The japanese are a hard crowd anyway, but if they see some of their friends at Home, they will try it like the sheep some of them are.

I dont see home being a quality product on a console.Basically its a rip off of secondlife of sorts.
