Five Reasons Microsoft Should Have Bought OnLive

From the PlanetXbox360.com feature article:

"So, the bombshell kind of dropped for the team over at the cloud gaming service OnLive right before the weekend. At first, it sounded like the service was coming to a screeching halt, as the majority of its workforce was being laid off, save for a few engineers. But then, as the day progressed, it sounded like things weren’t shutting down, merely moving in a new direction."

Was sad to hear about OnLive but hopefully someone will jump in and reshuffle/save the company...

What was sad about onlive's situation? It barely had any customers and those who bought into it should have known what would happen if the service goes down. If they didn't that was their fault, which would make them idiots.

Zealous
Most people forget about that and focus on the poor gamers not being able to access their games. Because of this, I too forget about the employees and focus on the gamers but you are right.

What was sad about Onlive's situation? People lost their jobs and soon as this month ends their benefits will be gone too.

I was kind of expecting MS to buy up OnLive since Sony bought Gaikai, Plus the name "OnLive" just jives well with the name Xbox Live. I think MS will have some sort of cloud gaming service on their next console whether it's an acquired service or just their own.

I believe MS has all the elements in its actual Corp to create a decent cloud based gaming service, no need of buying other companies.

Please, loved this service!

I honestly read this as "five reasons Minecraft should have bought onlive".

It sucks for the people who have bought games on Onlive though :( it has some nice perks to it but it wasn't something I was interested in. The internet necessity and not really having it stored on the hard drive is a big hit to the gut when it isn't really something that is taking everyone by storm and isn't, as of yet, flawless technology with modern internet.

killerhog2787d ago (Edited 2787d ago )

Not just you but a lot of people, like myself. I don't think could gaming is the future and I hope Sony or Ms do not get lost with it. I don't want to purchase a license to play, I won't to own even well after the service goes kaput.

Also agree with mika. Reason 5 was dumb. They are dismissing gaika's userbase and Sony's wide variety of developers and first party games. As well as Sony's relationship with studios outside of videos games and it's genre. Also obviously if gaika is doing better than onlive maybe they know what they are doing when it's comes to cloud gaming?

becuse cloud gaming is terrible, oh wait, thats a reason the shouldn't have, and they didn't, good.

lets just hope ps4 and nextbox go with badass HARDWARE!

screw cloud gaming, it lags, it needs CONSTANT fast internet, multiplayer would be a nightmare, the graphics don't even equal a 5 year old gaming rig, sure its a bit better than ps3/360, but its got nothing on a dedicated gaming rig or what next gen consoles should try to be~!
