This is the game people want to love just because it's different. Case and point... Killer 7, God hand, Okami, Vietiful Joe... All 4 of those games are so absurd and unappealing that people wanted to like them to be trendy or cutting edge. This game, made by some of the same dev's of those games, is no different.

It's an average game at best... It has some abstract gabrage and people will no doubt latch onto it like the last ring ding. What a joke.

It's like people "all of a sudden" loving Troll 2 cause it's a bad movie. I remember watching it when it 1st came out and loving it... Now, years later, it's all of a sudden cool to love the movie. Whatever.

I wouldn't give the game a 9 at all. I'm not being hard on it, but the game gets really repetitive quick and the only thing that's been keeping me entertained is the dialog and the visual presentation. Trust me, the game isn't a 9 but it's a refreshing game to play on the Wii if you're so used to playing Mario and Wii Sports all the time. It's alot like Assasin's Creed in its repetitiveness-but-want-to-kno w-what-happens-next style...the open world is more of a chore than fun. The sound is incredible btw, especially the sound of the sword when you finish off a group of guys at once...it makes my whole house rumble, but it also makes the framerate slowdown, not that it stops the enjoyment of the game. I'm really enjoying the game's dialog though and I like trying out the different beam swords but I'd put it in the 8s at most. 1up was right with its description of it being funny and stylish and about the open world being kinda pointless...but I'd give the game more credit than a 7.5 because it's from a third part dev and they really tried and succeeded in making something different and good for the Wii.

I don't want to sound fanboyish but I've never liked 1UP reviews and this only proves why I did. Seriously, the game is easily 9/10 IMO but hey, the same thing happened to Assassin's Creed. 9s from some and 7s from others. And AC is a huge fave of mine and NMH is a really great game IMO as well.

Especially with there audio programs like 1up yours & GFW Radio, i get a sense of what they like and they don't like. By that you can see what there reviews mean to you.

I agree with theo on this one. After listening to their podcasts, I do get a sense of who these people are and what they prefer. I've never read a review from them that I can't appreciate for the writers' perspective. I don't have to agree with their opinions but I do have to respect them.

This game is amazing. If you say it's repetitive then why do you like Assassins Creed, Heavenly Sword, Mass Effect, and plenty others where you do the same thing in that as well.

Yes there is killing in the game but there are plenty of other ways to get money and the boss fights are epic in there own right.

Basically its a love it or hate it game, but you can't expect obvious repetitive games to get a 9 across the board. Either you don't mind it or you can't ignore that fact and give it a 7.5. The game's presentation is great, the boss fights are very different and cool, the dialog is spectacular, but you have to admit the open world, the training, and the normal fight moves gets boring mid-game. I'm on the final rank now but the only thing keeping me into the game is the presentation and storyline. I wouldn't say the game is "omg omg amazing 9.0 GOTY contender"...but the game is better than average and better than alot of games I've seen recently since I think the devs put their heart into the presentation

Oh for sure it's better than average. I guess I didn't feel it was repetitive. Sure the fights to get money are either kill everyone fast or just kill everyone. Then there were the wrestling only ones along with the bat game. You could also do the free missions which you couldn't get hit (only completed 2 or so of them).

The side jobs also brought freshness to it and kept it from getting stale. Hunting down mines in the beach, or picking up scorpions in the desert, wiping away graffiti, and heck why not fill up some cars with gas. All the little extras to do helped me from not getting bored.

The training was pretty sparse and was only for 3 things but really what would you want from training. I liked how it was button mashing and motion for the training bench press was no fun but doable.

If the game was only 10 stages that would of been good enough cuz the bosses are the real game and the presentation along with dialog and personalities are brilliant. Yes there are pop ins and blandness in the open world but it fits the style of the game in a retro way. Plus it gives you the ability to ride around listening to the music which I thought was a perfect fit.

My review I gave it was a 9 but I wouldn't consider it a game of the year and like you said I also find it better than a lot of other games that have come out as of lately.

Yeah I agree with the side jobs, a few of them are really fun. I enjoyed trying to mow the whole yard, I liked the cat job, the garbage one, the scorpion one is cool too but I keep getting poisoned and running out of time lol...I like the easy bat missions, that was a good addition.

The bench press training just reminded me of GTA: San Andreas with the button pressing, but it was fun to do the squats and dumbbells. The pop-in doesn't effect the game really and the game isn't really trying to be that much of a graphical powerhouse to begin with, so it pretty much just blends in with the game quite nice.

Those free missions are hard lol...I think I only finished 2 too, but I always end up getting kicked from behind :(.

Can you listen to music while riding? It always plays that "bad to the bone"-like music when I drive, but I barely notice it now since I'm so used to hearing it.

I don't know how far you are into the game, but I guess the only problem with games like Assasin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, and No More Heroes is if you beat the game quick, you're not going to enjoy as much as if you beat a level a day or every other day. I'm on the last rank guy and just thought I'd save beating it for today, but I did beat about 3-4 levels a day...so it's repetitive if you play it for long periods. I can't help it though lol...I wanna see what happens next and see all of the beam sword upgrades.

It's nice to get inputs from people that's actually played the game, instead of someone saying "it didn't get a 9??? BS!", but they have no reason to say why since they've only heard word-of-mouth or watched previews. I can't wait to finish it tonight though, I will say that the game does have replay value.

Yea mowing is awesome lol. The first time I did that I thought you had to button mash A or B ha needless to say I only got bronze and a sore thumb. Then I tried it again and I had to slap my face ><

As far as the music with riding it's the same song as the one in your apartment but I really like grooving to it. Nice beat and I like the bass part.

I finished the game already! Took 17 hours and I did most of that in one day (hurray for the weekend) I bought everything I could from the store and have the katana blade with both upgrades and yes that last upgrade was a doozy. Bought all the videos offered but only found 7 red balls so only one upgrade for me (dash for course).

The second playthrough the treasure boxes are still there and for the ones you've already found there are now trading cards in the 100's. Which seem to bring you new shirts and items to buy ^^ good times. Plus I'll get to find more of those balls for the drunk Russian heh

lol @ dash, that's the one thing I wanted to do in the game and after reading all the descriptions for the moves i HAD to pick it. The dash actually made the game less of a chore as far as jogging everywhere now.

Wow 17 hours? What were you going the whole time? lol...I'm about to beat it but I'm on 9 hours. I have the last katana and I bought all 5 sword upgrades, I just need 150,000 more bucks then I can beat it...but I won't do it tonight since I'm a little tired, a 12 hr work day and playing basketball for your lunch break will do that to ya...

Wow only 9 hours with Rank 2. I'm not sure what I've been doing. But I bought all the swords and all the upgrades for each of them. I did training everytime available (even went there when it wasn't ready) I bought ever single piece of clothing for the game and that's a lot of shirts, jeans, jackets, belts, and sunglasses. That's what probably took most of the time cuz that can get expensive. The video store I bought all the movies I could and well I changed my clothes a lot but that doesn't take to much time. Hmm I thought I cruised thru the game as well :(

Oh question. I found the fastest way to make money was that assassin mission only a block away from the quest giver. The one where you get 10 mins to kill as many clones as possible for 1500 each. I got 105 kills as my best run and can get anywhere between 130k-150k ^^ Did you play that one and what's the highest body count?

That could be another reason why it took me so long. I didn't do all assassin missions which do give you the most money. I like my side jobs and free missions.

I actually just kept playing the last assasin mission at the stadium where you kill 30 guys for $90,000. I don't think I've tried that assasin mission yet...

(spoiler alert) The 2nd to last boss was harder than the last boss to me since she had that instant kill move lol...but it was an ok boss and I pretty much knew her story once Travis said "maybe it had to be done...". Did you beat the real ending too? What a twist that was...I'm gonna try to beat everything now.

This game plays like an old scratched up disc(I ejected a bran spanking new disc out to check for scratches. Load times inbetween gameplay and cutscenes so long you think the game froze. Graphics are rudementary.

The gameplay is fun when its not interupted by cutscenes every few minutes though. 7.5 is an accurate score IMO.

I don't know why it was playing so janky at first but now its smoother must of been a smudge or something.

Retracts that 7.5 , I think its more like at least a 9. GG.
