Ruby Sparks Review | GameRedemption

Ruby Sparks takes us into the creative process; the epiphany of an idea, the initial wide-eyed wonderment of courting with it and then the eventual downfall. The first act follows many of the similar tropes of the indie romantic comedy. We have quirky characters, cool jobs, a sense of whimsy and a sprinkle of cuteness. A couple that watches zombie movie festivals, plays retro arcade games and dance to 80’s pop for example. As the film continues we get a deconstruction of the genre with a crescendo into a very dark, almost uncomfortable scene. Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton are the directors of the film and also a married couple.
