newbreview.com's Kieran Roycroft wonders why so many good games fail to achieve the sales figures that they deserve.
A new Animal Crossing or a Kid Icarus: Uprising remaster would be perfect on the Switch 2.
BLG writes: "While it didn’t sell as well as the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo 3DS was nonetheless a wonderful system. And, while this may be a hot take, it’s easily my favorite handheld. Even more than a decade removed from launch, the system’s library has so many titles that feel as fresh today as they did back at release. While it was hard to narrow down, these 30 Nintendo 3DS games are emblematic of the system’s success."
From Zelda to Metroid, Nintendo Everything goes over the top five Nintendo franchises that have made the jump from 2D to 3D the best.
Excellent investigation into this. Thought provoking.
Define "Good" Because when it comes to video games, it's all subjective.
Short answer: People are getting dumber with shorter attention spans.
Long answer: The decline of the united states education system has lead to the movie Idiocracy actually happening. A lot of gamers consist of children that beg their parent(s) to buy them a game everyone else is playing. If in their circle of friends is a mindset of playing only the most popular games (call of duty, assasins creed, mario) then the only games with the big names will sell in big numbers. If, however, in their circle of friends there exists TWO friends who play indie games like Journey, FlOw, Braid, Terraria, then numbers of sales grow. Assasins Creed was once a new ip, needed worth of mouth. It infiltrated circles of friends and spread into a new series.
If you begin to spew forth advertising, then you have failed to see the big picture. Ads only work so far, most people tune them out. Especially in the world of video gamers, who like to think of themselves aa having above average IQ's. Ads are for the mindless masses. i dont pay attention to ads. So, even if a good game thats a new ip was advertised heavily can still fail if that game doesnt infiltrate circles. (See Resistance 3)
More importantly, if a game is good, it doesnt mean there was a demand for the game to begin with (Mirrors Edge) these games are classified as being "a breath of fresh air" meaning you werent expecting it, and it turns out to be a good experience. Unfortunately a lot of games end up on this route, and doesnt get to infiltrate the circles because while it might be interesting to the TWO people required in a circle to get interest sparking, sometimes the interest isnt there even with friends critical acclaim. (psychonauts, friends told me it was great, too childish and graphically terrible. However I like Tim Schaffer(sp?) and I understand why it was a good game. Wasnt for me)
Anyways, mix up these reasons and you have why good games dont sell like CoD, WoW, Need for Speed,
I bought the darkness 2..... for $9, but I still bought it..
