CryENGINE 2 Running On PS3/X360 To Be Shown at GDC

Crytek will demonstrate their CryENGINE 2 game development middleware and their Sandbox 2 game editor at this year's Game Developer Conference, for the first time running on multiple hardware platforms such as the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Saw the demo running on a naff PC the other night and yes, all the settings were low etc., and the frame rate was choppy, but the game still looked good and the physics were awesome. It can only be alot better on the consoles from what I saw the other night.

I hope the gameplay translates well for you console guys. We all know (of course) the graphics will be cut back. But even at that the game should still look on par with the other FPS games on the market. Which is not that bad at all.

They should show Crysis running on both systems and give a release date for it. If they just show the engine running on the 360 and PS3 and not even have a real game for it, that would be lame. I know the GDC is more for the Game Developers but if they use just to sell the engine, that would suck.

Then there may be some variation in how the games look.

Crysis is a FANTASTIC game, its basically a insanely fun physics engine with an awesome game built around it. I feel that people downplay the gameplay because of the great graphics however because they dont want to give the game a 10/10 (maybe they feel it's pretentious?)

I loved it (even on low settings ;) )

I hope they've engineered their engine to work efficiently on whichever console they've ported it to. I'd hate to see a dumbed down version of an angine due to one console or the other. The engine should take advantage of each platform's strengths.

Hopefully they are as good as Naughty Dog and took advantage of the SPUs. If so, then I believe it can be better than the pc version.

I don't expect anything near what they accomplish on PC's, that would be illogical considering the obvious hardware differences(unless you are wearing you fanboy goggles). It will be interesting to see what they can do with the next gen consoles.

There are many alternatives to the Unreal Engine. It is chosen by Development houses instead of these other engines for reasons. Whatever those reasons -- I dont know, but the industry doesnt exactly have a lack of engines.

id has its Tech series that they are going to focus on licensing more, but the old engine (series4) was used in 3rd party titles.

If you had seen the PM's he had sent me then you could cleary see he is a fanboy, he talks as if the PS3 is some sort of unlimited power supply to devs which is not true and he called the 360 a 180. The custom engines such as the ones developed by Insominac & Naughty Dog they really push the PS3 forward unlike these one size fits all engines.

Far cry 2 is not using cryengine2 (and is not a crytek production crytek have only made far cry and crysis) but is using small % of coding

Could be for 360 only, or PS3 only, or again im too picky and it's both.

That being said I wanna see how this beast of an engine is gunna be handled by these systems.

I hope it is Crysis Deluxe on the consoles. Maybe with scaled back graphics but more content, ie, a better more fleshed out storyline for example.

We know porting from PC to 360 is "simple" so thats a good sign.
