GAMECUBE AND DREAMCAST. I don't really consider the PSP overrated cause it has double the sales on everything on that list, except for one I think, how much is lifetime sales for the gameboy color ?
N64 was a BEAST back then & i dont think it was underrated.. I seen N64 in many homes.. Thats when nintendo would get good 3rd party game IPs.. Turok, Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark, etc.. Now, nothing
shadows of the empire and rougue squadron, Now we're talkin'! : D
i still play goldeneye, still have as much fun with it as i did 10 years ago. Map: facility. get golden gun and kill oramofv b4 he kills 006 and then you and 006 can shoot it out with the enemy for hours.
n64 was when nintendo started phasing out 3rd party devs..it still didnt have as much support. snes was where it was at. they had all the 3rd party titles.
on topic though, dreamcast was underrated. it could play snes, nes, gameboy color, genesis emulators right out of the box. even played ps1 games on bleamcast no modding required. plus it had powerstone and shenmue. first online multiplayer. that great of a console and didnt get many sales? < thats what you call underrated
the reason i think it failed was because all games were free if you didnt want to pay for them. just burn them onto a cd and play. the system had nooooo security.
Mine was caused from a power surge in a thunderstorm. I was playing it when it all of a sudden it caught fire. I actually cried because I was so stupid as to be playing it at the time =(
I first played Grandia II on Dreamcast when I borrowed one(and the game) from one of my underclassmen in high school.
It was instant love.
Naturally, I jumped at the chance to play it on PS2- since I actually HAD that system- and you can imagine how crushed I was that it was a poor port. I'd really love to get my hands on a Dreamcast of ONLY for that game.
Neo Geo #1 for sure now that you mention it. The system was (video+sound) so much ahead of it's time. And in just raw power over all in every subsystem. I mean, you PAYED for it nicely, especially with games costing hundreds of dollars when it was new and the system being expensive as hell too. But, it was easily the best 2D console overall no doubt. Minus the SNES had crazy video processing too, but it can't match the power or sounds or DMA speed of the Neo Geo.
Sega had two underrated consoles, the Saturn and the Dreamcast, and they both had immense libraries of innovative games and yet suffered the same fate. I am glad to have owned both at launch and to have counted hours of endless fun, and I still hope Sega will recover and revive more IPs, such as nights and the likes.
If Sega ever came out with a console again, I would jump on it. My first gaming experience that popped my cherry is that 7-up side scroller on the Sega Genesis.
@SPAM-FRITTER: haha yeah man, that's what it was, just looked it up on youtube, I'd give it a go just for old times' sake! I couldn't go far when I was a wee lad. Cheers bud for reminding me of good ol' times, happy gaming.
How was the N64 underated? I could see being around the same time as PS1, but it was still insanely popular. Gameboy is also something that was VERY popular. GBC may have been short lived cause I think the GBA would be coming out soon after. Gamecube I agree with. The Resident Evil games and Zelda games I love, yet I remember a lot of hate for the "cube".
I agree with the Dreamcast bit 100%. And I'm not up to speed on how well the PSP did. I remember teenagers still having them, cause you could play GTA stories. And I know the PSP Go did terribly.
Yeah how was the n64 underated? I've almost never heard anyone say anything bad about it, and it had the best party games. And, thanks to pokemon, freakin everybody had a gbc, I remember everyone having one when I was in elementary. The gb made handheld gaming what it is, definitely not underated.
The psp is underated imo, and so is the gamecube. Both are home to some of my favorite games period, like Pikmin 2 and Peace Walker, I really don't feel they get the respect they deserve.
I didn't really think N64, Gamecube, and Gameboy color were underrated. I guess cause I grew up with these consoles and the N64 deserves to be one of the top consoles, I just loved the games that were made for it. One of my favourite systems of all time.
PSP and Gamecube.
