What Makes Horror Horrific?
Dead Space is not scary.
Allow me to explain, there’s a difference between “horror” and “modern horror,” the kind of thing you see in most crappy horror movies nowadays. ”Horror” is something that gets under your skin, unnerves you, freaks you out, constantly presents you with horrifying images that stick with you whilst leaving you just enough in the dark to let your imagination fill in the blanks. Sometimes it performs a jump scare, but it feels earned – a climactic release that acts as the logical conclusion to that section of terror.
