Failure is Good

Bamboo Shoots writes: A thousand lessons in failure and none in victory, or so the saying goes. But in my experience of Dragon Age 2 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution this is doubly true. Fair warning, this will have spoilers for Dragon Age 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Mass Effect

I just hope they fix the issues from DA2 for DA3. If it doesn't look good then I'll probably skip it...

A lot of DA2s failure was just laziness and it was far to prevalent to ignore. You can learn a lot of things from failing sure, but you have to be committed to put in the effort to make a good game in the first place. Taking a good rpg then striping it of gear options, party customization, and reusing dungeons over and over is just the blatant manifestation of laziness. I'm not about to pay full price for something like that and it pisses me off even more when they decide to cut out bits of the story and sell them as dlc when I didn't think the story was worth 60$ to begin with.

Here's the thing, lets presume I am somewhat interested in the game and think it's worth 30$. If the game starts out at 60$ and I wait a year to buy it at 30$ I don't want to have to buy all the dlc they had at launch, that was part of the game, for 30$. I'm a patient person and more than willing to purchase games but some of these companies have me buying games used just so a 3rd party can make more money than the developer.

anast200d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine200d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast200d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman200d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast200d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave448d ago (Edited 448d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
