Currently Im having a blast toying with the CE3 sdk, and if this is easier to use then Ill might be able to push out a somewhat decent/playable game sooner than I think(long term goal)... still have a lot to learn with CE3. just created a few simple maps and placed objects in them and edited lighting and small stuff like that.
Even if you havent even considered being a dev you should try out CE3 SDK or some other kit. Can be quite fun, there is lots of help on the CE3 forum and on the web to get you going.
