Path of Exile vs Torchlight 2 vs Diablo 3 – RobotGeek

It’s a good year for Action RPG fans. We’ve seen the release of Diablo 3, Torchlight 2 is soon to be within our grasp, and Path of Exile is looking superb. Though, there’s something in gamers that makes us play favourites; Nintendo vs Sony, Mario vs Sonic, Infamous vs Prototype. We just can’t be happy unless we declare one game or system to be inherently better than another; it may be petty, but it’s our way. So with that in mind, and having played each game, let me welcome you to the following Warring Triad Tussle.

In the red corner, we have the heavyweight champion of the ARPG genre, Diablo 3. Continuing from the legacy left by its much adored predecessors, Diablo 3 intends to take modern sensibilities and merge them with the killer right-hook of addictive loot-collecting and depressing lore. In the blue corner, we have the up-and-coming Torchlight 2. Another legacy title, the original Torchlight was a surprise hit among ARPG fans, with a cartoonish style masking a game with depth and a pitch-perfect take on the genre. In the…let’s say green corner, we have the yet to be released, free-to-play title Path of Exile; a deeply attractive game with a unique take on the bartering system prevalent in most ARPGs.
