Media Create hardware sales (5/14 – 5/20)

Media Create published the latest hardware sales from Japan.

+7 units! Gogogogo! Seriously though, I think the sales are going to drop off until the release of the White Vita and the Hatsune Miku Vita which is reportedly sold out all across Japan right now.

Not good for anybody. Good that the Vita didn't drop, but it didn't increase by anything impressive, either.

Kinda funny that everyone thought that the 3DS will be the biggest threat to the Vita in Japan but it turns out to be the PSP.

I do not think Sony really cares though cause both of these platforms are making money for them regardless. I really wanna see how the Vita will do once Persona 4 Golden is released on June 14.

If that was actually the case the 3DS wouldn't be selling 4 times as many PSP's.

Selling more doesn't make it a direct threat. In the first place, the two devices aren't exactly aimed at the same target audiences. You can tell as much by their games and features: not denying that the 3DS can be/is a core machine, but like its predecessor, it has a far higher casual appeal than Sony's device.

The Vita and the PSP,, however? Even thinking about buying a Vita made me miss my PSP, so I'm sure there are people who just stuck with their PSP, or would decide to get one INSTEAD of the Vita.

There is no doubt that the 3DS is the main competitor to the Vita as gaming platforms go. However in order for the Vita to compete with the 3DS it has to get pass the PSP first.

Unlike in other regions the PSP is still a thriving handheld in Japan with many devs still making games for it. Once those devs move over to the Vita than sales for it will be similar to those of the PSP.
