I’ve never reviewed an expansion pack, but I will review without elements such as graphics and sound, assuming readers have read that in my original Mass Effect review.
Bring Down the Sky is a whole new system with multiple planets for you to explore. It adds a new race to the game, the Batarians, and adds more to the overall story, but does not give any hints into a game’s sequel. It is said to offer 90 minutes of gameplay and it only costs 400 Microsoft Points.
The story, albeit shot, was quite interesting. The new race, the Batarians, have commandeered an asteroid and are somehow diverting it to Terra Nova – one of Earth’s colony’s – which would lead to the death of millions. You travel across the asteroid in your Mako as you would any other uncharted planet in Mass Effect. The asteroid in controlled by 3 fusion torches, which Commander Sheppard must shut down, all while trying to avoid death at the expense of the extremist Batarians. An optional side mission is to rescue a group of hostages.
The thing I wanted most in Mass Effects DLC was new vehicles. That didn’t pan out. There was a new alien race as was previously stated, but there weren’t any new weapons. But there were new enemy weapons, things such as proximity mines and deployable turrets which both turned out to be pretty neat.
I complete Bring Down the Sky in half the promised time. There was a nice achievement at the end, but it didn’t feel like I earned it, it felt more like I paid $5 for it. Bring Down the Sky is nothing but a side mission with a little extra detail. With the infinite side missions in the full priced game, why pay another 5 for just one more?
Jonathan Lynch writes: "When it comes to games, this generation of home consoles hasn't seen nearly as many exclusive as systems in the past did. But both Sony and Microsoft have done quite well at securing a few great exclusives each. And of course we're running down the sexiest female characters to appear in those titles. We did a list of the top five sexiest female characters to appear in Playstation 3 exclusives last week and we have to show the same respect to the women of the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 made it pretty easy with some great looking ladies."
The joanna cosplay is weird. She's lacking the HIPS! all the other are nice.
Well, bots have nothing better to do than to rub one off to digital females since they're all hitting puberty.
Given that Christie is part of the DOA "Harem" which is also the beach volley ball game, which is on the PSP, isn't she off the list?
In other word: she's only temporarily exclusive...
Mass Efect 2's consistent stream of free downloadable content through the in-game Cerberus network has set a new standard of quality for stuff you don't have to pay for. Never before has a video game given more extra content for free; missions, characters, weapons… all really big things. So for the first "real" DLC pack, the first paid one at least, BioWare knows that they need to up the ante. Kasumi: Stolen Memory, the first paid DLC for Mass Effect 2 needs to be worth being paid for.
Gamervision reports: "Fans of Mass Effect 2 (or the game's style, at least) should be happy to know that BioWare has added four new signed, numbered lithographs to their store. For $29.99 each, the new prints feature the locations of Minuteman Station and Omega, as well as the characters of Jack and Garrus doing what they do best. BioWare hasn't shipped them out yet, but some alluring yellow text promises they'll be sent out Tuesday..."
I now know not to download, it looked okay but well i don't feel like getting mass effect out while i'm playing other games
If you did it in half the time I would think you either have it on the easy difficulty setting or you didn't do everything on the asteriod. Personally I felt it was well worth the $5 but everyone is different.
:(
It was a pretty decent for a dlc. I'm suprised you were thinking new mako how would that have been done really? I was upset that the three spot you needed to take down first where the same buildings you've seen everywhere and all the time. The last spot having a new local to fight in was a plus and even though it didn't change anything for game wise it did create a ripple in the story for part 2.
I now think that's what Bioware meant with the whole dialog changes things. They didn't mean for it to change during Mass Effect 1, but whatever you said in it would make it's place in Mass Effect 2 or 3. Hopefully at least cuz I'm still sore about it not doing anything in the current one.
The mako fights where pretty intense and you couldn't just sit still and hit them from afar. Those blast shields and placements had you fighting 4-5 at a time in close range. The equipment was only good if you were an engineer though which can be upsetting if you are anything else.
Sorry you didn't like it man. Oh only 30 more points for me to go! @ 1020 :)
... that it sounds like we're only getting a nonplayable new race. Everybody flamed me when i mentioned the buildings having very similar if not identical layouts thing... glad someone else noticed.
Thanks for the review I'll proly still get this cuz I'm weak...
