H-Hour: World's Elite - Socom-like

H-HOUR: Worlds Elite is the spiritual successor to the early Socom: US Navy Seal games of recent past. Is it worth playing?

This game was first created by David Sears, the original creator of the Socom games. He and his team ran a kickstarter but over the years the team abandoned the project , and a group of volunteers took over to pick up the pieces.

The game is on PC, and it was promised to be on PS4 , but these promises were pushed back time after time . This "out of early access" version that we recently got in February 2020 is the version that is (in theory) locked in and sent to Sony for review so it can be ported over on that platform. (Which the community really wanted in the first place)

H-Hour plays a lot like Socom 2 from the PS2, you choose a multiplayer lobby, select a team, select your guns (no customization) and the rest of your load out. You can also select your avatar skins, and dance moves. You then play on a handful of community made (recreated Socom maps) and SOF studios official maps. The lobby playlists are created by the developers for ranked, and user created rooms are unranked.

This game offers respawn and mouse and keyboard support , but the true way to play a Socom-like is in a Controller Only room playing in standard game modes like demolition, extraction ect. When you die you wait out the round, and if you kill your team mate you can get penalized if doing it too much.

The community is small, but has followed this game since the kickstarter. Most of them use microphones and using mics are very important in this game. The game has a voting system in place in case you are AFK , causing issues with your team

H-Hour has a ranking system, achievements, leaderboards but no dedicated Clan system.

Out of its early access state, and into its 1.0 VERSION, I am left kind of insulted with the final product the way it is. It still feels early access . Hopefully this game will find new life on the PS4 if they plan to port it over.

You can get H-HOUR:WORLD'S ELITE on Steam

Graphics
What makes the game shine are the maps. Some maps look really great, and taken a lot of effort to put together by the community. One map , Crossroads is the best looking one of them all. Some maps do not look great at all. Graphics are ok but all depends on the lighting the map gives off.
5.0
Sound
Sound design feels like it was given the less attention to. Guns sound fake and often times does not give off a decent stereo effect. Its hard to find out where an enemy is coming from. This game screams spatial audio and its too bad not enough attention was given to its sound, aside from the music.
7.0
Gameplay
The game play is addictive by nature. A few familiar game modes like extraction, demolition , suppression are all here requiring team work. Think of demolition games as "War football". If you die, you have to wait out the round. There is a king of the hill feeling in these matches, to be the best...
8.0
Fun Factor
Related to Gameplay, the gameplay has become better with the recent patches of 2019. The patches improved hit detection (although still needs more work), improved the fluidity of combat and is fast paced at times. If you are dead , you will be waiting out till round is finished, which can be a bore.

This is going to take a while

Wonder if I'll get my PS4 copy when I pledged to back this a long time ago on Kickstarter? Or is that campaign promise dead?

Omac_brother2222d ago

I'm hoping the pledges still get honoured (be a good way to fill out servers early) but I wouldn't bank on it.

jukins2222d ago

Wondering the same I'm doubtful since its been so long I figured this was done. Remember reading the director left a couple years ago figured it was all done from there

NotoriousWhiz2222d ago

One of the reasons I bought a PS4. I'll be ready for it whenever it releases.

I thought they cancelled this. The first and only game I supported through Kickstarter. I learned from that mistake.

H-Hour: World's Elite First Impressions Video Preview (GameWatcher)

From GameWatcher: "H-Hour World's Elite has the core of a decent multiplayer shooter, but with so little content and such a small player base it is impossible to recommend it at this stage. Hold on to your wallet until a significant update."

Still, it looks much better than the last gameplay trailer.

ballsohard20133237d ago

ok... so its 2015... We have two powerful consoles that are on par with Mid-Level PC's... what the eff is this? The narrator says realism in movement etc whic i think is bullshit. Im from the socrack aka socom 1/2 era, so i get it but at this period and gaming there is so much the developers can do and make this game look much better. Heck, this game doesnt even look better Confrontation. Metal Gear... i'll be patiently waiting lol

brokenbracket3237d ago

Right, lol... dude said realistic. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 looks better than this on the ps3

PizzaSteve3237d ago

They doing the best they can. Like I said before they should have asked Sony for production help since Socom started on PS. They want to be independent I know but I don't think I will support this game if it stay like this. I'd be patient.

REDDURT3237d ago

I could care less how it looks it's SOCOM Real SOCOM.

ballsohard20133237d ago

no its goddam waste of money lol. You act like socom had trash graphics. Remember when socom 1 came out it innovated mic talk and communication on Playstation. The first two were innovative.. Theres absolutely nothing innovative about this title. Its an absolute dumpster fire and they will put out a dud and wonder why its not getting any purchases and fan support. Stop letting these developers shove bullshit down your throat and forking over your money. MAKE THEM EARN IT SHEESH.

H-Hour: World's Elite Early Access Preview | Saving Content

Scott spends some time with SoF Studios' Kickstarter success, H-Hour: World's Elite now on Steam Early Access. This is very much a SOCOM game that has a very strong foundation, running on Unreal Engine 4.
