Almost every developer who has tried to impliment the PS3's motion sensing have failed miserably, but after playing Folklore not only have I found a game that impliments it perfectly I was surprised about the beauty of its design. The game has you play as either Ellen a young woman in search of her missing mother and Keats a journalist for an occult magazine, both protagonists are lured to an island town by strange occurences and as they uncover the reasons as to why they ended up in the island an intertwining tale unfolds that links the paths of both characters and the very town that they've come to.
The graphics may not be the powerhouse people would want however it is still quite beautiful from the colorful levels you progress to the town of Doolin. The levels are varied presenting a wide range of color from strong floral colors to smooth calm colors, The level designs are just as varied as the color schemes and is evident in the difference between the town of Doolin which serves as the area where most of the narrative takes place and the realms that serves as the games battle field with each realm possesing their own original characteristics that shows its creative nature. The characters are interesting and the setting of the plot allows almost all the characters even the secondary characters to have a backstory giving each character a bit of depth while still being able to generate enough interest in the main characters and the story they uncover to keep you following the main objective. The voice acting is underused but is still executed near to perfection, the different realms proves its worth yet again as it has allowed not only various designs and colors, but also sounds that can be ambient and peaceful to downbeat and tragic which shows the games variety and to a certain extent the little things can also add to the overall beauty like the sound of what either Ellen or Keats steps on.
The gameplay mechanic is simple and easy to customize with the id system which has you take the ids of enemies and absorb them to either gain that specific opponent as a weapon or as a means to upgrade ids you've already taken control of. Each creature is assigned to one of the four face buttons which allow you to use each creature where you can complement offense with defense, you can easily customize it where a push of a button allows you to see all the ids you've accumulated and to make it easier can be organized by element or the realm they were taken from. Not all the creatures can be beaten by simple button mashing and some require you to gain a specific element type creature to allow you to gain the ids to other creature and more importantly to boss fights. Each enemy and boss have their weaknesses and can be found throughout pages you can collect, these pages are amusing to say the least as they do not directly reveal how to beat them rather it shows a picture that would help the player decipher on how to beat certain enemies. The strongest mechanic in the game is its use of the motion sensing where it is used to draw the enemies ids in different ways by having you pull up at the right time or swaying the controller left and right, Folklore makes use of the motion sensing in one mechanic but is able to show multiple uses to how you can utilize the feature of the PS3's motion sensing.
The story is simply amazing the idea shifts from the original idea being given to you and switches it up to the point that the whole town is involved and to show the connections that the town of Doolin has with the characters that resides in the town itself. It progresses at a steady pace and split into a set of different chapters that allow you to play from the perspective of Ellen and Keats which can answer certain plot points and can open up new plot points together which keeps it interesting and gives room for plenty of twists and turns in the story, with the emphasis on the twist.
Tha game however is not perfect and has it's own set of flaws, the main flaw is that they've sacrificed the voice acting and potential cutscenes for a comic style presentation that didn't feel engaging and ruins the vibe of the game itself. The level designs although amazing can feel too repetitive since the game has you play from two different perspectives you'll have to traverse the realms twice at the very least, but the number of enemies including enemies exclusive to each character keeps the repetitive nature from being too noticeable.
Get ready to embark on a journey filled with monsters, magic, and overpowered haircuts, because this list features the best JRPGs on the PS3.
There wasn't that many. Thanks to the west's criticism. It was definitely lacking compared to every other ps system. Dont get me wrong there were a few good ones i know that.
Only gripe I have with Ar Tonelico 3 is that Saki is annoying as hell whether English or in Japanese. Then Saki's English voice actor became Ionasal on Ar Nosurge she was a little annoying but not as bad. Johnny Young Bosch voicing Tatsumi I thought he did a great job. And Akiko Shikata with her vocals and the music from the games just went hand and hand.
These JRPGs stand up on their own.
Could you get rich by investing in PS3 games? Almost definitely not. Can you make a few bucks by flipping PS3 games over the years? Yeah, sure! It wouldn’t even be that difficult. But let’s face it: Once these games are in your collection, you’re probably keeping them forever.
After a game's multiple generations old, and can't be had new at a reasonable price, that's when I see nothing wrong with emulation.
What's the point of paying someone scalper prices when the dev/publisher isn't even benefiting from it?
I paid $30 for SH Downpour on PS3 now it's around $70-$85 Canadian Lolipop Chainsaw I paid $15 and it has really gone up in price. I wonder if Transformers War and Fall of Cybertron will go up in price two of the best Transformers games every made.
Ever since Sony announced that they would shut down PS3 store these prices have skyrocketed and even though Sony backtracked now most gamers realize that it's a matter of time before the PlayStation 3 store is shut down. If you want these games get them while you can even if digital because once that story shut down the physical prices will just go crazy high we saw that already
And many of these games did not sell like crazy amounts so they are limited number of copies available for sale at any given time
