  • Not so original

That's funny, the Nano-suit is Macro-awesome

I have to admit, I'm surprised.
You know, when Crysis 2 was announced, I started hating it. I don't know why, maybe because of the console port... the fact is: I couldn't help but hate it. Then i saw some video, and my perception of the game totally changed.
Then I bought the game. And I loved it.
Let me tell you that Crysis 2 is one hell of a ride, or at least it was so for me. It's not innovative, in fact the gameplay is kinda generic, we could say it's just another first person shooter, but let's analyze the game itself.
The campaign was awesome, by any means. It's pretty long for today's standards (I finished it in 7:30 hours, and it definitely has a replay value), and it doesn't feel "regular". I mean, the game is linear, no doubt about it, but the presence of a map, of tactic points that will help you to survive, make the game feel a lot fresher than "just another shooter".
Oh yeah, I was about to forget... the graphics. Crysis 2 is without doubt the best looking multiplatform game ever. I still think games like Uncharted 2 or Killzone 3 look a bit better (in terms of performances and resolution), but they're console exclusives..
The source lights and the reflections in the game are something spectacular. Unfortunately it suffers from some framerate drops, and the resolution is sub-HD, but you can easily pass by those issues, since the game looks awesome even with them.
The soundtrack is good too. You can also listen to each song when unlocked from the extra menu.
The multiplayer mode is nothing special. It feels a lot, a LOT like Call of Duty, but it's fun and addicting. Maybe not one of the best multiplayer shooters around, but it may be a reason to keep the disc spinning in your console, if you've already finished the campaign and still want some Crysis.

That's it. I hope you liked my review, this was my first one. lol
Sorry if there are any mistakes, I'm working to get my english better and better every day. :D

See you, and go buy Crysis 2, or at least rent it, you won't be disappointed.

The best looking multiplatform game on the market. Period. Still, there are some technical issues that probably will make you turn up your nose.
Quality soundtrack. And the Crysis theme will make you addicted.
It's not really original, but it feels new. The nanosuit powers are useful, and the controls are fluid. Basically, you can choose how to play the game, sorta like MGS4, just with more action.
Fun Factor
I had a LOT of fun playing Crysis 2. All the collapsing buildings, the aliens, the military... and you're almost invincible. It never felt frustrating to me, the difficulty is well balanced.
Fun and addicting. To be honest, I think it kinda ripped off Call of Duty for the level system and the power ups, but the different gameplay make the game unique.
The story is too old to be commented.

"The best looking multiplatform game on the market."

Only 9.0?

DrHouse2843d ago

Its about 9 id give it that as well, there are "hiccups" in the graphics that are worth noting. So I would deduct a point.

I would however not doc points for non-originality, Crysis is quite original it may not be originl compare to its predeccesor, but it features elements put together so well that few other games have managed to achieve.

"Only" 9.0? 9 means "almost perfect", I think it's a fair score.
It's the best looking multiplatform game on the market, not the best ever. I would give a 10 to games like Killzone 3, Uncharted 2 or maybe Crysis 1 on PC.

It may be 9.5, it wouldn't make much difference.

@DrHouse: I know Crysis can be defined quite original (I've already talked about that in the review), but it's still a linear FPS. There are some new ideas, but the formula remains the same.
You start the level > Kill a bunch of enemies > End of the level.

"It may be a 9.5, it wouldn't make much difference."

It would have made enough difference to prevent me from commenting and from a discussion about it and thus the existing of what we're doing right now.

... really?

Dude, I shouldn't be the one to tell you this: scores mean NOTHING. They're indicative, and for the most part subjective.

We're not robots, we can't calculate exactly how much a game deserves in a 1-10 scale.
For me, it deserves a 9, and I see almost no difference in giving it a 9.5 (which can be also rounded down, since it's not a 10). You can agree or disagree, that's just normal.

I am very picky about what games I will invest my time in, I am not a trophy whore that plays any game to get the trophies or some other such nonsense.
As for Crysis 2 I am totally satisfied with my purchase, I am enjoying the campaign thoroughly and am not unhappy with it's looks, control setup or is default difficulty level. overall It is, in my opinion one of gamings must-haves if you like this style of FPS.
