Will Tears of the Kingdom Start With Link Having His Champion Powers
Before we say anything, no, Link will not have his champion powers when Tears of the Kingdom starts, and there are some reasons for this. The first is that Link was given these powers by the spirits of the past champions in order to combat Ganon and his forces. However, at the very end of BOTW, we see their souls disappearing and moving on from the mortal realm. Therefore, it’s safe to assume they took their powers with them and Link will be getting new abilities in this game.
One other theory is that the champion’s abilities were held in Link’s sword. Well, in the trailer for TOTK, it was shown that not only was Link’s sword destroyed, but his arm too. Therefore, the game might make that the reason he lost his champion powers. After all, starting the game off with these extremely powerful abilities would make the game way too easy.
Finally, by looking at the several trailers and gameplay footage of Tears of the Kingdom that have been shown so far, Link hasn’t used any of his champion power even once. Of course, this might be because the developers want to show off Link’s new abilities more instead of focusing on the old ones, but it also might be because the old champion powers are simply unusable in TOTK since Link lost them.
